2.9 whipple/e85 ready to tune

I've got the short term fuel trims dialed in on my new setup and its ready to go out for some wot pulls to dial in the a/f.

2.9 whipple
triple walbro return fuel setup

Going to start with a 3.0 upper and 2# lower. I think it's going to be a bit much for the street but we will find out. Will more than likely go back to the 3.5 upper for a street tune and just keep the 3.0 upper tune for kill mode/strip.

I replaced my old hilton boost overlay with the newer high boost overlay so I can see the needle peg.

I'll be hand polishing the new 3.0 upper when I get time.

While I had the car down I decided to polish my exhaust AGAIN! A wet road track weekend wrecked it. This time around it will be getting a coat of sealer and wont be driven in the rain if I cant help it.

Sorry for the crap iphone pics. Just been stupid busy trying to get this done and didnt feel like taking the time to get my dslr out. As soon as I get my new set of TF wheels in and tuning done I'll get her out for some good quality pics.

LOL! That wont take much work. She was already pretty crazy at 21 psi/e85 with the 2.3 whipple (700 rwhp).........I'm hoping for at least 100 more hp with the 2.9. 3.0 upper and 2 lb lower should make for 24-26 psi

Looks nice.

How'd you set up the cluster to read more boost than stock?

That is awesome. That's one less gauge I need to buy, and precious dash real estate saved.

That's weird. One of my other friends with an e85 2.3 Whipple Cobra, maxed out at 25 psi (Gen II rotors), on e85 and a stock motor could only make 690 rwhp. How did you make 700rwhp on 21 psi? Stock engine? Got a dyno sheet by chance? What pulley combo were you running?

And why did you go with the 2.9L? Why not a 3.4L?

I dont have a dyno sheet. The 700+ number was while at a dyno day and it was just an assembly line of cars on/off the dyno as fast as possible. One dyno compared to the next can go up or down a bunch on readings. Take dyno numbers with a grain of salt. There are 3 different kinds of dyno's in my area and I have seen cars dyno almost 100 rwhp difference between the 3.

I was running a 2.6 upper 2 lb lower on a gen 1 2.3 with 23 degrees of timing on e85. My buddy Kevin and Erik had pretty much the exact same setup as my car (same boost levels gen 1's or gen 2's) We all made pulls against eachother and were all pretty much door to door.

I went with the 2.9 because it was a direct upgrade and wouldnt require cutting/hacking up anything on my car. I take my car to the road track, strip, and do alot of cruising. For me a 3.4 would just be overkill. If I were going to go with a big bore modular it would be the logical choice. For now I'm just going to stick with my built aluminator. In the future if something were to happen and require a rebuild I will up the cubes a little and bump the compression up.

never really thought about that Scott. I had the fore returnless stuff before and just went right back to them for their triple pump return hat and other parts. Their customer service has always been great.

Just think about the carnage waiting to happen if one of your three pumps (unbeknownst to you) were to fail causing you to go lean. That is the single biggest reason I went with a sumped tank and a single external pump.

your one pump is just as likely to take a crap as any 1 of the 3 of my pumps so think of the decreased fuel volume compared to the complete loss of fuel pressure.

Besides on e85 even if one pump does fail it's not going to cause carnage as long as I do my job tuning it and not being a moron when driving it.

If my one pump fails, then the car won't start or it will completely run like crap. Your logic is incorrect. Also, I and other people have had some serious issues with the reliability of walbro pumps in return style systems. It's usually hit or miss. If one of your pumps were to fail, the car would still feel and act normal. Until it blows up from going lean, when you are racing. Two of your pumps cannot support your setup at WOT on e85. I know this because I maxed out my dual walbro (with a boost a pump) set up on e85 with my car. Very risky, imho. Should've just gone with a single big pump and not have to worry about it.

Yawn.............Get over yourself and quit stirring up crap in my thread. If you want to keep talking crap send it in a PM. Your one almighty pump can fail just like anything else. It's not just going to take a crap when trying to start the car. It could fail at WOT just like one of my pumps.

I'm happy and confident with my setup. Its not going to change just because you come into my thread and start running your mouth. My previous returnless dual ford gt with bap setup was on the edge. My new setup will give a substantial amount of headroom compared to what I had before.
