At least the block is ok, I dont have the money to build it now but im definetly going to save up for a set of manley rods and a set of forged pistons. Should I keep them flat tops and low boost or drop the compression and boost the shit out of it? lol

I actually expected far worse. Looks like it'll be a PITA, but overall not too bad.

For pistons you could easily go with the -10/11cc dish, that should put you around 9.1:1. You're dropping a little lower, but still higher than the 03/04 motors. Might be a good compromise. It's tough finding pistons that will get you into the mid 9's CR though, the next step is usually -4/5cc which are listed for around 10:1 CR, a bit high for most boosted applications.

can you tell if the ring ends were butting up?

you don't want 9:1 compression...

9.5:1 at the least.

9.5:1 would be nice, but I haven't found any pistons with the correct dish for it. The 9.5-9.8 range would be great, but the available pistons put you a little above or below that. But there very well may be some manufacturer's making them out there.

Isnt the 99 almost 10:1 stock with 2.8cc dish pistons?

No they were fine, when i look closer at the other pistons I can see it looks like they were getting hit lightly with a ball peen hammer, it was definetly detonating I dont know why i couldnt hear or feel it maybe my exhaust is too loud lol, oh well ill build it stronger and get it right this time. I should show you a pic of a piston i have out of an 03 cobra that rings were butted up on lol, there isnt much left of it though.

Why are you getting discouraged? Build the motor and increase the boost and go have some fun!

It has 9.85:1 CR. I couldn't find -2.8cc dish forged pistons anywhere. CR also depends on how much boost you want to push. Remember, the higher the boost and CR is, you'll have to mitigate the chance of detonation with retarded timing, higher octane, or a cooler intake charge, which is why lots of guys run E85, or methanol injection with high CR blown motors.

Plus it's not like the 03/04's have a hard time making big power with such a low CR.

Though I must admit an 11 GT is a tempting prospect...

Who knows lol my mind could change tomorrow, there was an authorized ford rebuild plaque on the side of my motor dated 10/04, looking back from when the motor was made and how many miles the car had on that date the motor had less than 20k on it. Shoulda left it alone lol too late now, funny thing with the motor I know its a teksid but there is no casting date in it at all, did someone reproduce these blocks?
