Short runners
I keep reading about how the short runner intakes will make you loose tq. But what if you are in a boosted situation? Would taking the runners completely out make a diff or would it hurt matters? Please help me out with this. Thanks in advanced.

depends on set up really. you can shorten runners and get kind of a happy medium, but it depends on runner length, heads, and cam combo as well. when youre boosted, it also depends on method of boost, volume, and pressure youre set at.

Well for the time being I was just going to run about 8# boost from a turbo. I have another motor froma mark viii that I was going to fordge the internals and bump the boost to about 13# ( of course I will have all the supporting mods for the extra boost). I also have another Cobra intake and was just gonna cut the runners completely out. Or I guess I could just fab a sheetmetal intake and just make the some runners of different lengths to see what is best. What do ya think?

If you cut the runners (assumming a b-head) less than 2" you can add timing in the low end to make up for any lost torque. I didn't loose any on mine and picked up 4rwtq at peak. Completely removing them even in a boosted motor will kill any low end.

So making a sheet metal intake with lets say 3" runners (because of removing the irmc plates) and separate runners for each intake valve (with the secondary runner with a smaller volume) may work. I may have to try this.

3" runners way too short for any engine operating below 7500rpm.

So what length do you suggest I make the runners? Also would a larger plenum help?

On a boosted car that's under 7500 I would stick with "close to stock" length and plenum volume.

I wish I had the option of having runners of any appreciable length. ![]()

So basically i dont need to bother with building me a new intake then. Am I understanding that correctly. I was just wanting to build me one that is similar to the new boss 302 intake. I have pretty much all the materials and equipment to build one. But it doesn't look like I am going to need to. But that titanium would have sure looked good under the hood lol.

Then it becomes an issue of "how tall of a hood do I want to run" or "do I really want to cut a hole in the hood". ![]() I'd run the "B" head Cobra intake as is with your planned setup.

Well looks like problem solved. Going with the original then. Maybe just polish the runners up as best I can then.
