Transmission, uhhh what would you do?

Hey guys,

First post here. Bought an '03 Mach 1 last Friday (first mustang, first car actually). I've spent the last few days doing nothing but searching and reading up on transmissions. My 3rd gear and reverse grind like mother's.

The Ford house quoted me $4,000 to completely replace the transmission (minus clutch). An automotive place a friend told me to check out quoted me $4,000 for a full blown Jasper rebuild with 3yr/100K mile warranty. I mean, if I had the time I would just order a T56, all the necessary parts, and just do it myself but I will be working 100+ hours a week till the end of August and want it now haha. Also, money really isn't an issue, but since I don't have BIG plans for this car I'm not sure what I even need to be looking for. Mostly, I feel like $4,000 is too much for a simple daily driver.
And for the life of me, I cannot find where people are buying all these rebuilt transmissions for 2/3 cost of new etc. What would YOU do?
Thanks a bunch, ladies!

It's a Torch Red Mach. It's got a Steeda short throw, Pypes X (catless).

@@ 1999cobra92, I cannot believe I missed that! Thanks bringing that up. All I need now is to find someone to install it. Could install be done for less than $400?

Thanks.
We are laid back. So don't worry about offending anyone. Check your local forums. Sometimes there are people out there that are willing to help as long as you take care of the beer and are willing to help.

Thanks, Mach Boy. I'll look around, but I'm guessing my chances will be slim since I'm in Midland, Texas which is tiny. I'm also still surprised I haven't found much online. It seems all I run across is T56 trans swaps etc. Surely there are more options. And I'm all for diving in and helping...Love to do it myself if I had the time and tools

August is a month away - sounds like your options are park it and drive something else for a few weeks (sucky) or pay someone else to do what you want done. I personally wouldn't want to let go of the money if it was something I could do myself. But damn...I wouldn't want to park it either!

Do you have another vehicle you can drive for a month?

I do have another vehicle I could drive, but would rather not haha. That's probably what I'll end up doing, though. And I ran into a couple mustang guys have a T56 they said they'd sell me. Really leaning towards that right now. I need to make a list of all the things I'll need to make the swap.

I bought a complete T56 swap kit, 26 spline, with aluminum flywheel, shifter, and SPEC stage 3+ clutch for $2100. A T3650 should be dirt cheap.

If you were in Indiana or around Buffalo I'd sell you my Mach 1 spec T3650.
