Whats up guys? Quick question about rear shocks on the 99 cobra (buddys car)

Bushings went out on the rear shocks so we figured that it was a good time to just replace the whole unit (they have 150k miles on them).

long story short, we went to 2 auto parts stores AND THEN an actual ford dealership and they just did not have the part we needed.

None of the Advanced/Autozone/Napa stores had any real idea on the actual part we needed. However, Napa did manage to cross-refrence the shock we took off of the cobra (Motorcraft) to what they say fits on a 99-04 GT. We took it out of the box and everything looked "similar" except the bolt hole on the new shock (that bolts the shock to the a-arm(sp?), not the part that sits in the trunk)was way to small for the bolt that came off the car. This was the same problem with the set we bought from Autozone (that they said was in fact for a 1999 cobra)

The guy at the ford dealership actually found the right part but told us that it was on manufacture backorder. He said it means basically that they are phasing it out of their stock completely. He had no idea how to help us. He forwarded us to some random parts seller in charlotte.

So where are you guys getting your shocks from? Off the Internet? Why on earth can Ford of all places NOT get them? That just makes no sense to me. Any input?

I'd talk to the guys at Full Tilt Boogie Racing. They're like *the* guys when it comes to Cobra IRS.

I'd be willing to bet you can still get the popular aftermarket shocks, too, like Tokicos, Bilsteins, Konis, and the like.

hm.... I guess we hope the ones on AM will work. nobody knows of the original motorcraft part or where to find it?

I have the Tokiko D-spec set from AM and love it.
