Mach 1 First mods?

Just purchased an 04 Azure Mach. 20,000 miles, and all stock besides flowmasters. Looking for suggestions for first mods I should do to pick up more power.

I'd swap out the Flows..but that's just me. Mod motors, especially 4v's need need straight through mufflers. Chambered just doesn't sound right on anything other than pushrod motors

I dont want them either to be honest, they just came on the car. i prefer the straight through mufflers as they dont seem to drone nearly as much on the highway

Very clean Mach. First thing I would do is get different mufflers

Shortthrow + 4.10's would be awesome. My dad ran a 13.3 bone stock in his Mach. With a midpipe and drag radials, ran a 13.03 @ 106mph. Drag radials were shot though, definatley could have hit 12's.

Gears. I found that 3.90s don't make me grab 5th in the 1320. I cross the line at 5900 rpm in 4th. You can't go wrong with 4.10s either but forget 3.73s. Not enough of a gain over stock for what you invest. great find dude. Looks awesome

A lot of Machs who race their cars use 4.56s. 4.10s should be the lowest numerical gear you consider and you should take a serious look at 4.30s.

My advice is get a short throw, full length subframe connectors, midpipe/catback, lower control arms, and a RAI/CAI. By that time you should have an idea what you want to do with your car be it forced induction, nitrous, or naturally aspirated. Once you know that start building for that because bolt-ons will nickel and dime you to death.

Don't take this the wrong way, but after reading this I think your first mod should be a short throw and practice your driving skills. There are some fast Cobalts around, and pullied is a very generalized term because of all the different combinations out there on the market. But even in stock form, a Mach1 should beat the average BPU Cobalt. I'd work on some driving and shifting if I were you. And remember that these 4V motors like to be spun hard. You shouldn't even think about shifting until after 6500 rpm.

I was shifting around 6700. We went from a 40 mph roll, which maybe worked a little more in his favor.

Like he said. Learn to drive your car. I beat Slowbolts in my 2003 Mustang GT. I would eat a cobalt for lunch in my 2004 Mach 1 and it is mostly stock.
