How can i get 400+hp in my 2003 Mach 1 being NA
As if right now i have a JLT Intake, MRT O/R H-Pipe, Borla Cat-Back, 4.10 Gears and a SCT Flash Tuner. I dont want Nitrous or Boost. I will be Porting my Intake upper and lower along with a PHP Intake Spacer and getting an Electric Water pump, bigger MAF, Injectors, and Plugs. What else do you think i would need. I would really love to have about 420hp to the crank, just so i can say i have as much horsepower as a stock 03-04 cobra has

Go to svtperformance.com and register there are plenty of N/A machs over there running high 3 hundred hp. At the wheels One guy i know has a 98 cobra with c head swap and set of cams and other supporting goodies thats running like 390 at the wheels. With gobs of torque. Id ask them.

^ IDK if id believe 'gobs' of TQ. NA 281s with supporting mods don't usually have much TQ, def not enough to say 'gobs'. Most in the 330-350rwtq range...390rwhp is doable NA...but it takes more than just stock stuff.
Ive done multiple 4v combos, all from 353-365rwhp. All stock Longblocks with proper cams and install. Just takes the right list of parts and the right builder knowing what he is doing.

Just a heads up, you wont likely hit 400+ NA for less than it would take to do it FI. Look into the 5.0 Big bore boss block and a stroker kit for it. You would end up with a 5.3L motor and with higher compression and the right cams you will make it to the 400hp mark.

Roger that. True. You will get better TQ through C heads than B...but still not 'gobs'. lol.

So...your big bore stroker method of spending 10K on a motor for 400hp...um...is retarded. Sorry. Ive done it back to back on numerous motors...for cams and bolt ons...stock intake...do the math. If I had a nickel for every time Ive argued this point on 32v 400hp...id have a shit-ton of nickels...

Well congrats on the 360hp 4.6, that is a decent number for a stock motor. However if you check out corrals NA list you will see plenty of examples of a 4.6 in the mid 300 range, but not so many after 370. I don't meant to take anything away from you, but to ask for 400+ out of a 4.6 without anything crazy is really pushing it.
Edit My bad I just noticed that the op wanted 420 crank not wheel. Ok you win.

Yeah, i probably should have been more clear on that, but yeah I am looking for crank horsepower. So are you saying all I'd need to add a set of cams to my list of to-do mods and I'll be good. I'll be getting most of this done over the winter at a shop that specializes in mustangs. I want to be ready for when the spring hits.

Yes a good set of cams that are installed correctly will get you where you want to go along with the other mods.

Cams will indeed get you to 420 crank HP, assuming you have all supporting mods.
My car made 346 RWHP with a stock 03 Mach 1 engine....and 96-98 Cobra INTAKE cams only....with bolt-ons (supporting mods) With a short runner, I think it wouldve made somewhere around 355-360....to the tires, which would have been somewhere around 410-420 flywheel HP. With stock cams.

I heard the 96-98 cobra cams are good but what are the redline on them? Also are there a better set of cams like some comp cams I can get is the price per horsepower not worth it?

again like i said, i dont want boost, im only 20, almost 21. Im not looking to dump all my money into my mach 1 and if something where to happen to my engine i would be f**ked, and plus i want to start saving up for other things. I would love to have a procharger, i really would but im not ready to spend $6k+ tuning on my car. I would be completely satisfied with around $3k to get me 400+ hp while still staying in a comfortable save zone because i am on 96k miles

Ya makes sense. Im 20 as well, just bought the mach 2 weeks ago. 24K miles, and the upgrades (procharger, exhaust, upgraded fuel system) were already on the car. But good luck man. Once you get at 400+ the thrill only gets better. |

Even if he wanted 420rwhp, he doesn't need big bore and stroker. My motor did 426rwhp NA at 6900rpm and power was still climbing. I'll get you a dyno graph with the current setup. I expect no less than 450+rwhp on pump gas.

hitting 426 on a 4.6? Well that just gets my hopes up with my 5.4. Openly my goal is 430+, looking forward to mid 400s, and am secretly crossing my fingers for 500.

96-98 cams only add 20rwhp. 420 at the flywheel is very easy to achieve and it doesn't take a lot of mods to get there, just cams and long tubes.
