Rated or not...my point is they aren't rated at 900hp. Manleys are NOT...which is what came in the 03/04 Cobra. and MMR (junk) and DSS and Mod Max, might use the 'same style' of H beam, but far from the Manley. Manly pays for QA and makes sure their rods are true out of every batch. The reason you can get all those 'other' H beams cheaper...is cause of QA...(Quality Assurance) Will they work. Sure. But does that mean they hold as much or are as of nice of quality? No. Remember. YOu get what you pay for.
The Stock 03 cobra Rods can handle over 1000hp

'Handle' and 'Rated' are two different things.

I know they can. Ive pushed them past what they are rated...and Ive seen stock longblocks do 850+rwhp. If you guys would read, I said rated. Never said they COULDN"T handle more power, just said they are rated at 700hp.

I dont know about you guys, but if I was putting together a motor for 800hp+ id throw in the extra cash for a nice set of I beams that are rated past what im shooting for instead of using H beams rated less than what ill make. I know people make a bit more power than the 700hp that manley rates the H beam rods at, but id like to be safer than save a buck.

That's a ton of great info! It won't be until the middle of next year before I can actually make something happen I have kicked around the idea of keeping my GT and just building it up a little. If I do that I am still looking at a good 9-10k with a kenne bell and maybe a little bottom end work. I like the idea of a fairly stock looking GT that will stay close to a cobra, vette or whatever. What do y'all think?

$10k is a lot of cash and too much IMO. You can get a complete 03/04 engine with blower for $6-$7k.

I paid $3500 delivered for my long block. Another $2500 for my suped-up Eaton swap with it, and probably another $100 or more in gaskets and fasteners, though some weren't necessary, just peace of mind.

Yeah you r right 10k is a lot. I will have it installed by someone else and tuned and all that so that will be a big chunk of it there. I think that is a good # start to finish don't ya think.

It's a ballpark. MPS Salvage sells the whole engine/transmission/fuel tank liftout for $10.5k And that's all stock.

And of course with an installation it's going to cost you big money, labor isn't cheap. I'll work for a couple bucks, beers and pizzas.

It also depends on how complete the engine is. I've spent most of my time piecing everything together and installing cams. If it's a completel liftout that will cut down on labor.

plenty of people have used the Manleys including myself past 1000rwhp. A billet rod and a forged rod will both break the same way if there is an engine failure.

A lot of people are under the impression HP breaks parts, thats really not the case. RPMs are what break parts. Thats why they say the Manleys are rated to 700hp at 8000rpm.

^ either OR usually wont break parts. WHen you start mixing the two is when you start breaking stuff.

And 10k is retarded.

I have less than half of what it would cost someone building my big bore motor on a site like MP or Livernois. I literally have 2200-2300 in my shortblock, thats including machine work. Look on other sites and see what companies charge for a big bore shortblock.

Ppl really need to start doing research and sourcing out parts and building stuff yourself. It isn't rocket science. And when you do it yourself. YOu get piece of mind its done right...

That's one cheap shortblock. Where do you get your rotating assembly? Most of the one's I priced out were around $2k as is. With fasteners, gaskets, machining, and all that nonsense I couldn't say no to the Cobra longblock. I actually put up a WTB ad for DOHC parts, planning on building it myself, but a guy floated me an offer on the longblock and I couldn't pass it up, especially delivered.

^ My bad. 2400-2500. Forgot about the expensive main studs.

I find stuff and make it work. I spend where only needed to be spent.

And just to clarify, there's no such thing as a "bullet proof engine"!

Here's an example of what happens when a billet I-beam rod meets up with 2 inches of liquid gasoline inside the cylinder when the motor is just being started!

Had a Mach for 3 years, now I own an 04 Cobra. Honestly if I were to go back I would have just gotten the Cobra in the beginning. Both are badass 4V cars though.
