Any tips or advice for installing long tubes on a 97 cobra?

just bought flowtech long tube headers, BBK o/r x pipe, o2 extensions, and sct sf3/x3 tuner for my 1997 cobra.

i've never installed headers on anything before, so this is totally new to me. if anybody can give me any tips or advice that will make this go as smoothly as possible, i would greatly appreciate it

if you don't already have a tubular kmember, i'd do it at the same time since its gonna be off.

for sure drop and replace the k member, and use stage 8 locking header bolts so you dont have to do it again. I would also recommend an MLS style gasket. Ford Racing sells a set for about $60. just my $.02 though

its easier on jack stands if you dropping the k

jsut use a jack to hond the engine up while you install the headers

but yes make you life easier and drop the k TRUST ME

also double check the make sure the matting surface ont he headers is straight before you put them on, i had a problem where it was not straight and had to remove the head and fix it ( which sucked ass)

also use the stock studs in any place you can ( some you will have to use the bolts) this way they are easier to install and its less bolts to come loose

Sell em' and buy Bassani mid-lengths. Same hassle to install but at least you don't have to unbolt them to drop the tranny.

As someone mentioned...use the stock studs. Use them everytime and I have NEVER had one back off...Run a tap through the nuts to help them screw on easy...and wrench the piss out of them.

It isn't that bad if you have a tubular K member. I can do BBKs in a 96-04 in 1 hour or so...Thats just install. Add another hour for removal of old headers.
