A guy not far from me was selling a "Cobra R" trunk and wing. He was selling real cheap and I thought I could sell the wing and use the trunk to experiment on. Anyway I took the wing off and there is a Ford stamp and some sort of a vin number on the bottom of it. Did Ford make the cobra wing to sell or was it just for the cars? And if they did produce more, is it possible to tell if it was original to a car? The wing is black but I have been told that some Cobra R's came black (not really sure) or it could have been repainted.

Real Cobra R's were red only I believe. Sounds to me like someone chopped up a Cobra R and is selling the parts. Probably an insurance scam...

I'm still not sure about the color but I doubt it was an insurance scam. I would really just like to do my research because if its not a real wing I'm going to sell it and try to make a little money from it but if it is a real one I'll probably hang on to it. Maybe I'll find a way to use it as a shelf in my garage haha.

post a pic maybe? if it says ford on the bottom id assume its real but been painted, 2000 cobra R's were all red

All 2000 Cobra Rs were red. I'm completely positive on that. If anyone assumed they came in black, I may be part to blame. :



I used all Ford original Cobra R replacement parts and the side exhaust, which wasn't sold by Borla to the public, was from 1 of the 300 original cars.

A Ford Cobra R replacement wing will have removable stainless steel sides plates. They will also have fiberglass enforcement "blocks" under the trunk. The trunk lid will be between the wing and blocks; the wing's fasteners (ie nuts) will not go right onto the trunk lid itself.

Damn Black306, your car looks real nice man. Is it a full Cobra R clone? i.e. interior, engine, trans, etc?

My wing came with all the stuff you mentioned. I'm just want to know if there is a way to tell if it came off one of the 300 cars. If so I'm gonna hang onto it for a while otherwise I'll probably just sell it. I post some pictures and the vin# when I get a chance.

Thanks. I was getting there. I had the same Recaro Sport seats, minus the R logo, and a similar rear seat delete. I was making plans on a 5.4 swap, but then I test drove a then-new 03 Cobra. Back then, 5.4 swaps were far and few between back then. I decided to pass on the swap and trade the car in for a Cobra.
