tune flat lines at 5500?

put the mach on the dyno today, everything shows promising results, but flat lines at 5500 rpm's. we command 25-27 degree's, but it wont go more than 20.... the knock sensors that sensitive???

not sure about the mach 1's but my gt nor my 03 cobra does not have a knock sensor. the modular motors are to noisy for the sensor to function properly.

the boss for the knock sensor is in the center of the valley and there is no sensor there. i have torn town plenty of modulars and never pulled a knock sensor out. i know there are people who have adaped knock sensors on the motor but 99-04 2v's and cobra's do not have knock sensors.

thats what i figured would be happening in the long run. its a 3 1/2hr drive to the dyno, i just left the car there, and will go back for it monday to work on it. it pulls damn hard to 5500, then just flat lines all the way to 7k. its a mirror image on nitrous as well. this was found when we were trying to get the maps and afr's dialed in. we got 320/305 so far, the 320rwhp is at 5500 where it flat lines and at only 20* of timing. not bad with 9.6:1 comp.

Mach's kill timing like crazy. Throwing more timing at them won't help because it will just be taken away. My tuner describes it like this:

The stock calibration was actually pretty good but Ford missed it with the onboard Knock sensors. They are way too sensitive and pull timing like crazy. If you have any bolt-ons it’s even worse. Merely adding timing in the tune won’t work because it will just be taken away!
Going to have to work around basically by disabling/removing them.

figures. i was up like 31hrs by the time i got home and in bed. i wasnt in the mood to trouble shoot the car after delays to get on the dyno. we were still on stock timing tables (except for 5500-6500) to get everything dialed in.

can someone please explain to me where the hell this knock sensor is, cause like i said before 00-04 2v's do not have one and i have torn my cobra apart and never found one. i know ford has a miss fire counter written in the tune which maybe some how kicking you back, or your intake temps are threw the roof on the dyno since the car has no forward moton and to little air flow threw the fans. its not that i dont belive you guys, but it just seems odd that mach 1's would have one. also if you do have a knock sensor you should be able to turn it off in the tune

Is there not 2 knock sensors under the intake manifold on each head?? (the knock sensor bosses have to be removed/ground down for an eaton swap iirc?)

mach's may have them, but like i said before ford did a way with the knock sensor cause they were having issues with the noise the modular motors made delivering faulse knock

none of the 2v's have knock sensors, if it didnt have knock sensors i would of mention'd it. 96-98 cobras, i believe 99-01's, machs, and 05+ all got knock sensors.

holy crap learned something new! really does not surprise me, ford does some crazy stuff sometimes. my cobra has a map sensor, and so did my lightning, but the lightning one was not in the manifold, just chilled on the side by the fuel rail.

just not sure why it decided to cut it at 5500. we were logging fuel stuff and afr's for most of the afternoon. we just happened to glance at the power graph out of curiosity when we seen the flat line. then we went to work on it for a little bit but was getting close to closing time.

the tq cure is on the way down at that point. we never change the timing table on the lower end, so tq was still low. it actually had 2 tq curves as well, i'm guessing there is some turbulence in the manifold.

Does this have a short runner intake? If so, what's the runner length? Cutting the runners too short will cause some serious issues inside the intake. 8-9" runners only work on FI engines; never go shorter than 10" for n/a combos. I'll post a graph of an 8" runner intake on an n/a engine later.

As a points of reference:

-Modularpseed's stock Mach longblock with Cobra cams and ported stock runner length intake made 325rwhp at 5500rpm with 24 degrees of timing.

-a similarly modded 9.8:1 stock longblock with 106400s and a stock, unported intake made 350rwhp/340rwtq at 5500rpm.

Here's another Cobra cammed Mach 1 engine:

i cut it down 2in. he tweaked on afr's and low rpm timing, its up to 354/330 right now. he will work on it some monday, but i will be going back up there tues for final tune and numbers. he hasnt disabled the knock yet, just working on the drivability still.

what are the IATs? motor running hot?

I'm not saying the knock sensors aren't the issue but i have noticed both in my Cobra and older GT that the computer will pull alot of timing for a heatsoaked IAT.
