99-01 Cobra engine questions

I found a couple of these engines for sale. One has been stripped down and all that is left is the short block and crank. Both with 49k on them. The other motor has 300 miles on it and is almost complete. Missing the oil pan and time chain. The guy cracked the block right where these parts meet by hitting piece of tree in thee road. The top end of the motor looks fine. What kind of power can these blocks handle and would the stock crank and heads handle any type of power? I can get all these parts for 600 which sounds like a good start. The entire 2ndmotor I can get for 300.

The 99 should be a Teksid block, which is a good thing. To be certain, take a look in the valley between the cylinders and see what the cross-hatch pattern looks like. If the pattern is made up of squares then it's a Teksid. If it's made up of diamonds, it's a WAP. Check this link, it gives a little info on the difference between the two and has a pic that shows the difference in the webbing in the valley, which is another method of identification. The text also says the Teksid is what they recommend for power levels over 900 so that should give you some indication of the potential.

The stock crank in either of those blocks should be forged from the factory so you're good there. The weak point from the factory is the rods and pistons as they still use the cheaper and weaker cast items. The heads flow very well, you can do some porting on them if you want to get really extreme but you can make a lot of power just as-is. The stock rods and pistons are fine if you're staying N/A or even if you want to run a blower or turbo with modest boost. Throw some forged rods and forged low compression pistons in there and you can run some high boost levels and make some real power.

On the 01, I presume it was recently rebuilt, do you have any idea what kind of build was done? Any chance they may have forged the internals, which you could then swap over to the 99 block? Probably not much of a chance of this, given the price they're selling it for, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

The 01 block was a direct replacement from ford. Im assuming it is stock. It wasn't rebuilt, just a brand new engine.
