Mach Trans Input Needed

Alrighty everyone, I have been having some issues with my trans and I want to get some input on it.

Firstly, I have done some research and I think I may know what is going on but I want to describe it completely so I can get y'alls input seeing as how this is my first manual and I am still learning.

When I did my engine rebuild I took the trans to a shop and had them inspect it to see if it needed to be rebuild because it was making some noise. The shop said everything was fine except for the shift work which had to be realigned.

My problem is when I am driving in a high gear at low rpms. I get a grinding sound coming from the transmission and the volume varies based on rpm and gear. 1st and 2nd gear almost never make this noise but 3rd 4th and 5th will make the noise when the rpms are down around 1k....The worst gear is 5th and its makes a very loud grinding noise when in that rpm range. In all the gears this noise will diminish and completely cease with higher rpms and I never have the sound when cruising at highway speeds.

I dont have any trouble shifting into gear and I have checked the fluid and it is good and I used royal purple fluids so its a quality fluid.

Everything I have researched is leading me to believe I am going to need to rebuild it but I just want to get everyones input.

Thanks

I seem to recall from back when you did your swap that you were having some issues with the trans mount and cross member. I never saw whether you resolved that issue or not. Just a thought, maybe the trans mount has broken and you're getting a metal-on-metal resonance. I'm probably completely off-base but at least this is something real easy you could check before you bite the bullet to have the rebuild done.

My previous GT I had with the tr3650 developed a grinding noise a year after I bought it. Only really noticeable when it was in 5th gear though. Drove it for 2 years like that, never had any problems with it otherwise. Still not sure why exacty it did that, Was kind of annoying though.

I am going to see if I can get a recording of the sound in a little bit.

Been trying to find a good clip of what it sounds like but no luck so far.

My biggest concern is making sure it is fixed before it decides to break on me.

No, they're not a "junky" trans. Like everything else in the mechanical world, some have problems and some don't. I don't have problems with mine, and I don't drive like an old lady, and it handles more power than it was ever intended to!

same issue/tranny swap

I have been having the same problem with the T3650 in my mach but only in 5th and as stated before I am pretty sure that its the synchro. Rather than rebuild it, Im going to drop the junky 3650 and replace it with a custom T56. Any thoughts on that idea?

Have you done this? If so how did it work out for you?
