As a drag racer I didn't really want a stick or an IRS. Switching a Cobra to an auto with a live axle would cost as much as putting a supercharger on my Mach 1. Those mods to a Cobra kill its value while adding a supercharger to a Mach won't. The Mach is around 5K cheaper to start with too around here. Just my 2 cents.

The only difference is once you approach the 450-500hp mark your Mach 1 becomes a ticking time bomb with each WOT pass being one more pull on the grenade pin, where as you can make 800rwhp with a Cobra and not lose sleep at night.

That may be true but I don't need 800HP. 450 gets me an air conditioned 10 second street car. And if it grenades (even though I don't think it will at 450HP) I'll take the 5 grand I saved when I bought it and build a forged engine.

Sounds like you really have your heart set on a Mach1. I say go for it. Price is a bit high but I realize Canada prices are a bit higher. Both cars are rare and unique with positive and negatives depending on the way you look at them. Mach1's are great looking cars and they have enough power potential out of the box to get you in trouble. And like you said the only limit in the future is your wallet. No matter what you choose you are going to spend boatloads of cash modding it. It's what we do. I doubt you will be dissapointed with a Mach.

thats kind of an odd way of looking at things. cobras can run 450 hp with out a problem and you also dont get issues with trans at that hp level. the option for a 26 spline upgrade is cheap for the t56. also there is a lot more to the savings including a fuel system that can support 500 rwhp with a simple bap. 450 rwhp is as easy as a pulley change, 120 dollars. that is some kid of deal there if you aske me.

It's not an odd way of looking at it if you think about it. Lets say I buy a Cobra for 20,000. I then have to stick at least 5,000 minimum into an automatic and live axle swap. I now have 25,000 into a car that's worth 14 or 15,000. And the auto and live axle need done now as soon as I get the car. Instead I bought my Mach 1 for 15,000 that already has an automatic and live axle. If I spend 5000 on a supercharger I have 20000 into it and it's probably worth around 16,000. Don't get me wrong. I love the Cobra, but for what I want to do the Mach 1 was a better choice.

i didnt know you wanted an auto. im a fan of auto myself and a 4r isnt a bad trans. i would shop around and look for a deal on a car. the more you save on the car the more for performance. i have a total of 18200 into my cobra including the car and its a ton of fun.

I already own a Mach 1. That's not a bad price on a Cobra. A nice one around here is still 20,000 +.

Building cars is expensive. Starting with a 4r75w is one way to look at cutting cost. If mid to low 400 hp is the final goal then the mach is a better deal. Adding gears, stall, and a jmod will help make the mach more fun to drive with the sc
