Mach1 03 Or cobra 03/04
Hey guys, Long time lurker first post.
long story short. i currently own a mustang 98 V6. Ever since, ive been a mustang fan. Im looking to buy a mustang cobra 03/04 or a mach 1 03 and been looking around for a few month. yesterday i found this beauty. just talked to the owner of the mach. claims that the car and paint is in perfect condition, no mechanical issues. he also chaged the tranny from a cobra 6 speed and SVT clutch My question is... should i just go get this mach 1. ( he told me he would let it go for 18k) and im pretty sure i could get it down to 17k or wait to find a cobra in this condition next summer. I'm thinking of keeping the car for a long long long time and keeping it in great condition. And yes, i do understand the engine on the cobra has Forged pistons, rods, air to water intercooled and supercharged already on it, but i do not intend to buy or build a 700-800HP car, at least not for now.... I think the main reason i'm still thinking of this mach 1 is that it is unique (rare if i can say) and there isn't a lot of them. I've been to 3 mustang meetings this summer and haven't seen a single one. As I said in my first post, i have the intention of keeping this car (a cobra or a mach 1) a very long time and take good care of it. and i could always mod the mach1 engine to support a 8psi+ supercharger.... a few years later... just looking for some opinions Sorry for my english. BTW im in canada. thank you! just looking for some opinions |

That price would be too high for that much mileage around here. I wouldn't know what its worth up there though...
If its a fair price for you, you seem like you've done your research and you know what you want. Just make sure the tranny swap was done right, as well as all the other work. Find out why exactly he did it too..it sounds like its been driven hard |

Nice looking Mach 1! The driver's seat looks like nobody ever sat in it! Price is a little high for a mild bolt-on, trans-swapped Mach 1, but if he's willing to negotiate, I'd go for it.

The ad shows 36,500 kilometers, which is less than 23,000 miles so that part is good. It has a nice set of mods, which would cost you a good bit to duplicate, and I like the fact that all the stock parts come with it as well. If you do get it, I'd recommend switching back to the stock pulleys and take the underdrives off. There've been too many reports of oil pump failures with the underdrives for my liking. I actually think it's a pretty fair deal assuming the mods on it are something you'd do if you were to buy a completely stock car. Styling between the two is very subjective, some people prefer the extroverted look of the Mach while others prefer the more understated Cobra. If you're more interested in all-out performance then the Cobra would probably be better but if you're more into the old-school style (which it sounds like maybe you are), I'd say jump on that Mach.

I love the machs, probably more than a cobra, but for 18,000 I think I would spend a little bit more and go for a cobra. There's a couple machs in my area going for 12-13,000. Granted, they are higher mileage than that one. But it's up to you.

I beloved cobras are more fun to drive since it comes with more power and a irs in the back. Since you don't intend on modding the car I would buy the better bang for the buck car. Cobra interior is nice as well

I would go with the cobra. There is a clean 04 coupe near me with 24k on it for 19 thousand.

I would go with the Mach. Yeah the cobra is cool because it's a "cobra" but a Mach 1 is a legend. Insurance is going to be higher too. Are you going to take it to the track enough to justify having a SC? Your not going to be THAT much faster than a Mach anyways. This is just MHO, it's your money and your decision bro. good luck with your decision, post pics after your purchase.

I really love the unique looks of the Mach 1's. But if it were me I'd look for one in one of the wilder colors.

I see this one Mach all time, just can't avoid her
![]() As for Cobra vs Mach I don't really know because they both have good points so go after which ever one you like best. If you do get the Mach I agree with gdl, ditch the UDP

The mach just doesn't stand out enough from a regular gt. You get a shaker hood a
, chin spoiler and graphics plus a black spoiler. You know a cobra just by seeing it. |

![]() Cobras aren't that easy to pick out anymore, so many GTs and sixxers have Cobra body parts

The Cobra has the same profile as a V6! The Mach 1 has it's own distinct C-pillar, plus the power dome hood and shaker are clearly visible, while you can't see the Cobra's heat extractor hood from the side profile.

Basically Mach 1 guys are going to tell you to go for a Mach 1, and Cobra guys are going to vote for Cobra. It's really a no brainer. Supercharged with a Forged bottom end, stronger trans, funner to drive > Limited HP N/A 5 speed no blower noises. If you can't tell the difference between these two then you don't belong near a car. ![]()

Op I would trust your gut on this. Think about what you really want. Both cars are on the rare side. If power is what your shooting for than cobra is it. The cobra also out handles the mach as well. I get stopped atleast once a week by some guy wishing he had my cobra. Down the road it will be worth more as well. There aren't many cars that can have a budget build bolt on 500 hp for under 3000 dollars.
