4V Info Needed

My roommate took me to this new salvage yard he found and it turns out to be absolutely awesome. I found 4 lincoln's there which had the 4.6l dohc. They were selling them at $100. Im looking into doing the swap in my 96 GT.

The ones I found:
1) 1993 mark 8 w/ 195k miles
2) 1996 mark 8 w/ 135k miles
3) 2X 1996 "Intec" (mileage unknown due to it being digital gauge cluster) from a grand marquis I believe

My question is which one would you chose and whats the difference between an Intec? and regular mark 8?

Also #1 looked to be mint* it had all the plastics intact on the other hand #2 looked like it had been nit picked and the plastics were either gone or broken.

Any help or info about these engines would be greatly appreciated.

nothing "intech" is what they slapped on the valve covers after 97. YOu shouldnt use a fwd donor engine use the rwd mark 8 platform. Id go with the 96 if i were you but 97-98 would be better.

InTech was just a name Ford marketing put on the motors, nothing's different or special about them. It was probably to counter GM calling their DOHC V8 the "Northstar system".

get the motor that has the most amount of similar looking parts on it as your car does (i.e. COP igniton vs coil towers, TB inlet position...) that will make the swap go alot easier. also, be sure to get all the radiator hoses, the thermostat housing assembly and both the throttle cable and cruise control cable. another thought is if you are going to use the lincoln 24lb injectors you may want to grab the MAF as well. i'm not sure how those are set up but if it has an external IAT sensor, get that a some of the wiring harness for it. another bit of wring to get is the plug for the alternator.

since you are swapping this into your 96, it will be a pretty simple swap, no fuel rail modding like all of us 99+ guys have to do.

just a shot in the dark but i'm gonna say the 96 would be the easiest to swap in. that should have a different intake manifold than the 93 (the 93 i believe has the TB inlet on the drivers side where the 96 should have it on the passenger side like the mustangs do.

Get one from the Mark 8, they have Teksid blocks which are stronger than the Romeo blocks

the 93-96 mk viii have the t.b. in the back with the egr(real p.i.t.a. to work on) you have to pull cowl plastic and wiper motor to get to anything!! don't think it would clear mustang firewall. prob be better to use cobra intake.

you will either need to find a 96-98 cobra intake manifold (which can be done but beware, they are usually very salty) or get ahold of a an intake manifold off of a 98 Mark VIII. if you cant come up with anything on the manifold, i have one from a 1998 lincoln mark VIII you can have for $25 +the shipping. i was going to use it for a little project/brainstorm i had but never went through with it.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you!

This is by far the best option. i always wanted to see a side-by-side comparison of a Mark VIII motor with the stock manifold and then with a Cobra manifold on it to see what kind of gains are to be had, especially with tuning.

The mark 8 engines have intake cams with 20 degrees less duration than those in the Cobras so hp will be considerably lower.

What's the hp difference between a mark 8 and cobra engine? How much power will the mark 8 make with the cobra intake?

Ford advertised the 96-98 cobra to have 305hp. they advertised the lincolns at like 285 iirc. 290 if it had the LSC package.

the last part, about the intake manifold, sparks my interest.

A cobra cammed engine will be about 20rwhp higher than the a Mark 8 motor. The mark engine will make about 285 which is the same as a bolt-on, cammed 2v. However, the B headed Mark 8 engine will make less tq.
