Just flipped ****
I just drove home from work (2.9 miles). Sat in my car for a few minutes to finish some texts. I look up and my temperature gauge is showing 3/4! I freaked, shut off the engine. Turned it to 'On' and it was still high so I sat for about 30 seconds. Started it up and revved it and kept it to about 2,800 RPMs to see if maybe its the water pump and needs some extra RPMs to keep it running properly. No such luck, it stayed where it was. Turned it off and turned it to 'On' about 2 minutes later and it's back to normal. Now I've been sitting ere for about 5 minutes with it at idle and it's staying normal. 124,140.0 miles right now.
Any ideas beyond the basic of sensor and fluid level?

Radiator probably needs to be flushed...this happen to me in gt. Sh*t from the bottom of the radiator got stuck in my thermostat then flushed it self out. Nothing a little radiator flush couldn't help.

So I just went for a quick drive because this is driving me crazy and my mechanic isn't home and I let her warm up under my regular driving conditions (<3k RPMs until its to operating temperature.) then I flexed her muscles a bit for a couple miles on and off, turned around came home, now I'm sitting here at idle waiting for any change and it's running normal.
Are thermostats on their way out a bit tricky like that? I heard to check your thermostat is to put it in boiling water. (Sorry if that sounds stupid, but I'm much more book smart than I am physically with cars. I tense up when I work on cars because I really don't like to fuck up. Anyways, that's how I heard to check them.) How hard is it to change a thermostat?

mine, before my thermostat would open for the first time, would go a little high and then be normal all the time after that. All of my vehicles are that way

So the thermostat on my car seems extremely easy. Just remove the old one and put the new one in facing the same direction?
How do I flush the system?

When you refill you'll want to fill both the reservoir and the coolant crossover under the air intake. I've heard that drilling a very tiny hole in the thermostat will help prevent it from getting air-locked after install, but I haven't done this myself so I'll let someone else comment on that.
