Advice on qucik easy and somewhat cheap power adder or quickness

A few months ago I bought this 96 Cobra with 103k miles on it. Inside is pristine. A few cosmetics on the outside nothing big. Car is slammed to the ground wish cut hotchkis springs. Literally i can barely fit a finger in the wheel wells. Motor is pretty stock from what i can tell. Has Cold air intake and exhaust. BBk long tube headers o/r H-Pipe with Borla Stingers dumped. Pro 5.0 Shifter and firewall adjuster. As far as i know that's it.

Ive been told that the cobra motors are pretty stout the way they are . cams crank and pistons are pretty good for a street 400rwhp car but the intake is very restricted. Car is quick but my 5.0 was faster.

trying to find something to make it quicker or more powerful with out spending 5k right off the bat.

ANY IDEAS!?

Thanks! just read your cobra thread on here. everyone seems to have a 01+ cobra S/C with IRS .. lol nothing really in there for good Ole N/A 96 Stock.

i have been deciding between 4.10's or 4.30's for gears. my 5.0 had 4.56's and they were crazy.
looking into a SCT turner.

those will make me quicker but ill only gain about 20-25 with the tuner being stock and gears might give me a extra .5sec on my time. but guess those are the cheapest routes for now.

ive always heard nitrous isnt to safe. im scared to run it. i can get a wet set for 400$ but to scared to spray

Alright ya might have talked me into doing that ha..
what about a intake manifold for this thing. I haven't heard or read on anyone changing the intake, mostly cause everyone has a damn 03-04 (witch i want). i had trickflow on my 5.0 took the cobra off and it made a huge difference.

anything out there for the 96 DOHC cobra?

On American muscle they have the jlt cai for $225 or the c&l for like $350 but if you can look around and find something cheaper and more in your budget maybe then go ahead although on American muscle the jlt cai has good ass reviews so you could just buy that one

I would keep it n/a with some cams and better heads. Once you get it up to 350rwhp it'll pull pretty hard. any idea how much power it's making right now?

as far as i know its a completely stock motor. besides the exhaust and intake.
and stock they ran 305hp around 270 275 rwhp. so if the wear and tear of old age hasnt brought that down . with the full tune up and minor bolt on id say 285 290rwhp.

it does sound like it has bigger lifters. i have not checked internals though to confirm.

the stock intake manifold you have is fine. alot of the 96-98 guys will turn their stock pieces into a ported short runner. na_svt on here has lots of info on that and more can be found on SVTPerformance.com. also try looking up simmons short runner intake on google. lots of pictures/info there. you should be able to crack the 300rwhp mark with a short runner, full bolt-on's and a really good tune.

if you want the biggest bang-for-your-buck i will always suggest a basic nitrous kit. i have one and it by far was the best $200 i spent to go fast.
