Cobra main cap

Ok well heres my question guys, I just got a 4.6 iron block from a 01 gt to start my cobra build. My question is what is the typical cost and how hard is it to convertr a two bolt main into a four bolt main and also would I need to mod anything else to make this a cobra block?

It'll be cheaper to get a cobra block. Why not go with an aluminum block?

Because I want the strength of the iron block, and I also picked up the block and crank for 75 $. I'm just wondering if the main cap is t the only thing I need to do to make it a cobra

Adding new main caps will not make a GT block a Cobra block. Unless you're making over 800hp any of the aluminum blocks will work. Why add 80lbs to the front of an already front-heavy car if it's not needed.

Like I said orignally, I got it for 75 bucks haha. The whole engine build idea was to have something that hovered at about 650hp but could have close to 1000hp if i really wanted it too do it.

I have friends making over 1000rwhp with teksid blocks. If you want a cobra block, get a cobra block.

I'm assuming the "Cobra" block you're referring to is the 96-01 Cobras, not the 03/04. The 03/04 had the same Romeo iron block as the GT.

The iron block is stronger, but as mentioned the aluminum Teksid/WAP blocks will hold you to over 800 anyway, and will save you lots of weight in the process.

The iron block isn't "crap," it's just heavy.

Well in that case you're pretty much there. My 03 Cobra block is a dead ringer for the Romeo block P71 I just pulled out of my GT. I believe there's a slight difference in oil pan, oil pump, and obvously rotating assembly, but the block itself should be the same Romeo iron block. It is a heavy sumbitch though, especially with those massive DOHC heads.

If you're not going for insanely big power an aluminum block would certainly help, but I also understand the value of thrift. You can get aluminum blocks not just from Cobra's but from MKVIII's and late model Explorer's as well. Though I believe the MKVIII's are Teksid and the Explorer are WAP.

Fun fact- I found out the cylinder heads we're using on some of our engines here are from Teksid.

Well I just found out that if I do tap it to four bolts the jack screws would stretch alot, so either sell out to the junk yard for some money towards a aluminum block or make this work in my s197

Teksid blocks only came with B heads and 99/01 C heads. The 99/01 heads are similar to the 03/04 heads have smaller exhaust ports and no short turn radius so their low lift intake flow isn't nearly as good as the 03/04s and the FR500s.

Not sure why you would want to tap the mains...
These are some pretty damn sturdy mains. You've got the main bolts, the jack screws, and the side bolts holding it in place. You've got to be pushing some obscene power for this to be an issue.

What kind of build are you planning anyway?
