I still have my factory bushings, but yeah, it's not a bad idea to change them out for a better performing IRS. Don't forget about an IRS brace, or even better a new, stronger differential cover. My rear has never given any problems, but then again, I don't do any hard launches and don't track mine either. They are good dependable cars that respond like no other to mods. Just do your research so when you do mod it, you do it once and do it right.
It would be a great idea to have someone go with you to check the car out, preferably a Terminator owner, and I would also get a leakdown test.
Do research on the infamous head tick so you don't end up with that headache, then do a head cooling mod when you get the car if not already done. All this info is also on Cobra Bob's site. LOTS of great info on there, grab a big soda and check it out.
Good luck, the anticipation and the hunt for one is FUN!!!

He's got almost a year before he can buy one according to his OP.

What do you mean? Bottom-end can supposedly handle 850+ with proper care.

A smaller pulley and "other stuff" will make around 450-500rwhp. It will take quite a bit to achieve 800rwhp.

Yes, rwhp means rear wheel horse power. And it all depends on the tune. I've seen 400hp Cobras blow up due to a bad tuner, and I've seen 800rwhp Cobras run low 9s and drive home just fine.

89StangGT said it all with " it all depends on the tune"!

Just get a reputable tuner who knows Terminators and keep your AFR and timing at a safe level.
The first 100 extra RWHP is cheap, upper pulley, free flowing exhaust, intake, and a solid tune.
The next 100 HP is gonna cost ya, I just went thru this, proper fuel mods alone are gonna coat a grand if you go with a really good system.
It really is endless, you need to go ahead and start a seperate "mod" fund, you are gonna need it!
