Mail order tune

Hey guys im new to the 4v world with the recent purchase of my 04 COBRA I was thinking about geting a mail order tune from Amazon. I already bought a 2.80 pullie, bbk o/r x-pipe, JLT cai, magnaflow catback, now just need a tune. Any feedback would be appriciated.

The only thing that requires a re-tune is the 2.80 pulley and CAI. I would get a hand held and do it yourself. A mailorder tune is risky business IMO.

Mail order tunes are good, but when you go to doing major mods like that it would be alot better to go ahead and get it dyno tuned.

I got my 02 Lightning dyno tuned from there.. Rick sent me a mail order tune so i could make it up there... then i had to pay dyno time...when i went up there my first pull i made 390hp... he said that that was right on, but he wanted to tweak it just a bit... my next pull i made 411hp.. plus another 20 lb/tq... i wouldn't trust a dyno tune, but can be safe if not driven too hard... thats the only was i would use a dyno tune ( just to make it to my tuner)... rick is probably the best tuner for 03-04 cobras... take it to him

I would prefer a street tune off a data log to a dyno tune any day.

Yeah I wouldn't trust a mail order tune. Check out either

BRENSPEED, BBK BMR SCT STEEDA MAC PYPES SLP MUSTANG PERFORMANCE PARTS

or

BamaChips Tuning

for tunes & tuners. This way you will have someone who knows your car, and you will have support if something goes wrong or you change something and need to update your tune(s).

Anyone who can "tune" your car without actually being there strikes me as risky. I wouldnt get excited over a mail order tune. Get it done the right way the first time.

Mail order tunes are decent, but i can only say that for 05+ cars. Because they are N/A and pretty much everyone does the same things for most tunes. I would stay away from a mail order for a 03-04 cobra or like others said the svt trucks. WHy i say this is because they are s/c and everything relys on a safe tune. One wrong move and youre motor will be at risk. If you go have it tuned at a dyno they have live data and everything will be cool. They can tune conservative, like mail orders do for s/c cars, but a dyno in my area i am good friends with have dyno'd mail order cobras with pulleys and exhaust and every single car has run lean. I say its an expensive car to begin with, dont take chances with mail orders

Like i said, with mods like that, go and have it dyno tuned. Just like goblin said its not worth blowing your motor. One of my buddies has a 03 L and he put a lower pulley and a few other things on and got a mail order tune. Ran fine for a couple of weeks but now there is a big ass hole in his block.

There have been some issues with the L's not responding to timing changes and detonating and that is probably the case for that motor. Many of the top tuners have seen this issue, but could not figure out a fix. More than half of the email tunes i do are on boosted applications. As long as you are smart about it and watch the AF and listen for detonation email tunes are plenty safe. Dyno tunes can cause problems and blow motors just as easily. I had a friend get tuned at a dyno (not my me) and when he took me for a spin it was detonating like crazy. The terminators are easy to tune too. It you want to squeeze out that last 5-10 hp then do it on the dyno. If you want a good tune that drives like stock, email tunes are the way to go. Email tunes require that the customer is computer literate and at least know a little about their car. If you know nothing about the car, and have trouble loading software in windows, then take it to a dyno and let the pros do it. Email Tunes Explained

get a mail order tune from amazon, with a pulley, theres no problem with it, they've done a million of them.

you should get it dyno'd though, and datalog the dyno pull too, to check you A/F, and then send the datalog back to them to look over.

although they have done it many times you are still not getting your true potential...if you didn't read my post, I got 20 more HP from Ricks mail order tune to a dyno tune that rick thought was already perfect... why not get a dyno tune so you can pick up more HP/TQ, get A/F ratio perfect, and not have to worry about anything messing up... I dunno about any of you, but i still have a car payment... i would hate to be paying on something that i couldn't drive

Well it looks like the only way to tune is on a dyno. I found two shops that are around 5hrs away, they are Steeda and Dasilva. Have any of you been to these shops for tuning? Thanks again.

i know these cars well, and with just a pulley if you compare a dyno tune to reputable tuners mail order, your not going to pick up more than maybe 5-10RWHP, thats not worth the $300 IMHO. much better things would be bought with that $$. for pulley only, mail order is the way to go.
