In Sean Hyland's book, he says that the Mach 1 has the same heads as the 03-04 Cobras. The intake cam is the same as the aviator intake came. Exhaust is same as Cobra.

so am I to understand that a bolt-on B-port car is only likely to get ~300hp to the tires?

Remember, horsepower isn't exactly everything. You have to take into account any weight reduction, suspension, tires & traction, better aftermarket parts such as driveshafts, etc. Only 300hp to the rear wheels is actually quite good for these cars. |

I was just curious what was possible on these motors before you had to go to boost or juice.

I've only got 3 bolt on's for power and I'm over 300 at the wheels. If I had full exhaust, UDP's, larger TB, and an aluminum ds I think I'd be pretty close to 340-350ish rwhp. Not sure if everyone thinks of an aluminum ds as bolt on, but maybe even a light weight flywheel to free up some more ponies at the wheels...
With ported heads and intake and some agressive cams I could see a Mach well over 425rwhp,probably closer to 450, and if I had a balanced rotating assembly with all the bells and whistles and some higher compression there's no reason that a n/a Mach couldn't be very close to 500hp... Would probably have to run higher than a 93 octane fuel, very agressive port work on the intake and heads, and some not too street friendly cams to get that # though...

What 3 mods? And do you have a dyno sheet?
Can you show me a DOHC V8 that's getting that kind of efficiency without using some fancy-pants variable cam timing or profiles or the like? I mean, yes, a Ferrari F430 pulls 480+ hp, but they're doing it at 8500 rpm using 5v heads and variable everything. I'm not doubting the possibility, but I am doubting that this almost-500 hp will be anything more than a drag race engine, and for the cost, you could have a *streetable* 6-700 hp 4.6L with boost. And, for the record, my question about 300rwhp was specific to the early b-port cars, not the later 4vs.

K&N intake tube, off road x pype and weld in Flow Masters. I forgot about the tune. So that makes 4. I've got a dyno sheet somewhere, got it in an e-mail from the tuner and it's in .pdf format. It may take some time to find it...
I've heard that full length headers and free flow exhaust back are worth close to 40 alone. Haven't done it myself but that's the word on the streets. I was trying to say that near 500hp would not be streetable... Guess I wasn't clear enough. I don't think that I would want to be driving it around daily, or even on a cruise for that matter! That's kinda what I meant with "all the bells and whistles" from a windage tray to lightening the crank shaft and lightweight on everything possible, plus some very agressive cams and super high compression.

We all know it's much easier to get that power with FI or nitrous. But we were talking N/A numbers out of a 4.6 block.

im sry but im going to have to call BS on the 450 hp NA and the 40hp you would gain from LTs and a free flowing exhaust would assume your going from stock your already have the x so your prolly only going to gain about 20-25 i would say if you got LTs and a cat back. i think with some aggressive cams and ported head you would be lucky to see 400 but hey i could be wrong. and as far as the arguement on the cams being diffrent in the 03/04 cobras and the mach they are not. they are the same look up the part numbers.

Highest bolt-on B headed cars made 300-310rwhp. By adding a shortrunner intake they can make 320-330rwhp. Mine made 325rwhp 300rwtq with the shortrunner. -Mark

I added just about every bolt-on known for the Mach 1 and I'm at 371 rwhp. That's not including the headers/TB. In the process of doing a 302 stroker. The heads cams and valve system will come later. A company in Kentucky are doing great things by increase the valve size with the port/polish of the heads. They are able to get another 100 rwhp just from the all the head work. But it's expensive and worth the money.
