oil leak in spark plug hole

Ok 4vers, this has happened for the second time. Is this something that is common to these motors or am I just lucky? Changed the plugs and wires on the 96 Cobra vert, and the back plug on passenger side had oil in the hole. Might add that it still had original plugs, etc, 74,500 miles. This same thing happened to my 97 over the summer, only that was leaking enough to spill onto the header. Smoked like it was on fire. So the question is, does this happen to anybody else?

oil doesnt just get into the combustion chamber, it has to get in there somehow. most likely its getting by the piston.

any smoke from the exhaust?

no,no, it's on top of the plug,
has to be leaking from the gasket around the plug hole thru the valve cover.

be glad its the passenger side though, not the driver, you dont have to lower the motor to get the VC off.

You have to lower the motor to get the valve cover off on the 1996? It doesn't look like it... if so, that's insane.

Also, I get oil in the holes. There's none on the plug, but in the hole there's a little bit, actually in more than one. I used to get smoke out of my exhaust, after putting an air/oil seperator on it pretty much got rid of it though. I don't think my O-rings or whatever are bad enough to replace... yet.

Also, my smoke was only at really high RPM range under WOT. I'm talking like 5,400 - 6,700 RPM or so under continuous loud. Never did figure out what caused it, I'm almost 100% sure the air/oil seperator fixed it though. If not, here comes another "HELP MY DUMB CAR" thread in the spring.

Definatly valve stem seals. Buy the whole kit with the valve cover gaskets and do it all while you are at it. Its not that bad of a job to do. Just make sure you torque the covers down evenly.

Never had to lower the motor. Actually on a 96-98 the drivers side is easier to do, as they are not covered by the throttle body/ plenum intake like the passenger side.
