97 or 99 cobra??

ok so im lookin at two different cobras. a 97 and a 99. which would be the better to get. i know the hp differences and all. but i could have the 97 and extra money to dump into it...or the 99 and only have a little extra money. also im looking at a 97 with a vortec v1 SQ blower. thanks in advance for any input.

If you have to pick between those 2 get the 99 snake. Looks better and has more potential!

better all around, but mainly for performance. would i be happy with the supercharged 97, or should i get the 99 and save up for a supercharger? which would i be more happy with in the long run. i'm new to 4v's and 4.6's in general. i'm a 5.0 junkie.

That choice will realy fall on which body style you like. I think the 99+ cobras look better than the curve body cobras but again its personal prefernce. You can make either one as fast as the other.

how hard would it be to make 400 horses out of the 97 (from stock) as it would the 99?

Neither one is easier. The 99's where usualy the exact same power and in some cases less power than the 98's although ford claimed it had 15 more HP. But between the 98 and 99 it comes down to looks. But with the 99 you get the better combustion chamber design, and better intake runner geometry. Its still just as easy/diffucult to make either one put down 400. It will take alot on the stock bottom end of either one. head work, cams, full bolt ons, yada yada yada

Not power wise, no. Mostly just looks. and IRS in the 99. That is definatly something to think about as well. If you are gonna make a dragstrip pounder that IRS may bite you in the ass later. It is a pretty easy swap to a solid axle but just trying to get you all the info you need/want so you can get the right one.

yea i was just thinking about the irs in the 99. i probably wont be goin to the strip much, i haven't even taken my cobra i have now to the strip once. i found a 99 i would like to have. its a white hardtop bone stock for 10,900. i kinda want a stock one so i can start and build it up on my own. the other two im looking at are a black 97 for 11k, and a red s/c 97 for 11,800, both of which are in mint condition. i think i might go for the 99 though. i do like the square body style a little more than the rounder ones. thanks for all the help guys.

Yea you can build up the IRS to handle as much as the solid, but at what cost, you know? Its just easier and cheaper usualy to just swap em out. You will have to do more than braces though, like half shafts, bushings, etc.

oooh yeah also I have raced 2 99 cobras and one 01 and I beat the 2 99s but the 01 had headers and got me by 1/2 car. and this was back when all my car had was a short throw shifter and K&N... and the 99-01 cobras only have 15 more hp due to the heads.

There has never been a stock 99 cobra dyno out higher than a stock 98. Thats why ford haulted production and redid a bunch of crap on the 01's. And sorry 97cobra, they curve bodies just don't do it for me. Its personal preference but I just don't like em.

i would personally get the 99 just for lookies but if the s/c is already on the others it can be a good or bad thing.. that just means they abused it that much more and possibly didnt get pro install and all that other crap that ultimately doesnt matter

I liked it pre rocker panel stripe. It is clean ass car though. Especialy underhood. The big thing that kills me on the curve body cars is the tailpipes. They look outa place on everything but the cobras. Its like they where an afterthought. I wanna hear it.
