Shifter

Is there an easy way to determine if you have a stock or after-market shifter. Which really boils down to what does the stock shifter on a 2004 Mach 1 look like?

Does it feel like you have to grope the passenger when you shift to 5th? Or better yet is it hard to get into 3rd? If so then you have the stock shifter. If you have an aftermarket shifter it will have it's name on it. You can check by lifting up the boot and taking a look.

I used to miss 3rd quite a bit and it was frustrating. I haven't missed once since I put in the Tri-Ax.

You know what's funny? I popped the boot and it says Tri-Ax on the shifter but it is still like stirring a garbage can full of pool balls with a toothpick.

you shouldn't be using the stop bolts in a mach anyway it has internal shift stops

There's a difference between having them on and off though. I took mine off and then tried it with them on. I liked it much better with them on.

Tremec has also released this bulletin: Tremec Transmissions
Service Bulletin 03.01
Subject: Aftermarket Shifter Stops
Transmission Models Affected: ALL
Severe damage may be caused by installing an aftermarket shifter with "shift stops" on any TREMEC transmission. All TREMEC transmissions are designed and manufactured with built-in shift stops to prevent over shifting. Therefore; shift stops on aftermarket shifters are totally unnecessary when used on a TREMEC transmission. TREMEC "TR series" transmissions have multiple shift rails with shift stops on the gearing. TREMEC "T series" transmissions have a single shift rail system with stops built into the guide plate.
When installing an aftermarket shifter on a TREMEC transmission it is best to remove the shift stops to avoid miss adjustment, and the potential of the screws vibrating lose. A misadjusted shift stop can cause an under-shift, which may lead to a gear jump-out situation. If the transmission jumps out of gear, the shift fork can be bent causing permanent damage to the transmission. Shift forks can also be damaged by "clash shifting". A clash is caused by a missed shift.
Neither an "under-shift", nor a "clash shift" can be prevented by shift stops. TREMEC shift forks are designed to take loads up to 1,000 lbs. However, a gear jump-out may well exceed 1,000 lbs. of force, which may result in a permanently damaged transmission.

I sure have a gear grinder here, reverse is tough and so is short-shifting to 3rd or fifth

I'll have to do some adjustments then. I've had 4th jump out a few times when I've ran hard.

So, I have to remove the rubber boot to see if there are stop-bolts?

The steeda says "Tri-ax" on the base of the shifter, what's on the handle is irrelevant.

and if you have a T45, you NEED the shift stops, or you can overshift (been there, did that, luckily had most of it covered by warranty).
