03 swap ??'s

What's up guys? I haven't been on here for a while but now I'm back! Hahaha.

I had an '03 Cobra and it was wrecked and would like to swap the motor and tranny into either a Notch or a 99+. I've been reading some stuff on modularfox.com but am trying to get different views. I've heard that the Notch is really hard to swap a modular engine into and that going with a 99+ is easier and more things bolt up. I wanted to test the waters and start the thread before really jumping into questions. So if anyone has knowledge on this or thinks they can lend an educated hand I'd appreciate it. I'll post some questions later tonight.

Would it make a difference between GT and V6?? I would think that in a GT stuff like the AC, PS, and PB would be a disconnect and reconnect...am I wrong?? Lastly, If I just changed the injectors would the fuel system be okay??

any 96+ gt is gonna be the easy. 98+ will be the easiest because the fuel system is the returnless like your cobra. Its pretty straight forward. If you get a 98+ gt you will need to get the cobra fuel tank and pumps, or baffle the gt's tank and get cobra pumps or GT supercar pumps. The fuel system needs to match or exceed the stock cobra setup, you will also have to change out the crossmember for the t-56 to fit the gt. You will need the cobra's ecu or find a tuner that can burn you a chip for all the swapping. Its alot of work but a hell of alot less than dropping it in a fox.

Since I have the entire car from my donor can I just take everything like the ECU and fuel system and just transfer it?? Also, will the crossmember from my Cobra for the t56 transfer to the GT? From the looks of it I'm going to be doing a 99+ for pretty much all the reasons you listed above.

O yea. that is a very easy swap for you. Get a 99+ and you are set. Its just a simple swap since you have the donor.

i say put it in the Notch... that would be very unique... how many Foxy Body's do you see with 03 Cobra motors...i think it would be worth it in the end...

LOL..I hear ya 97Cobra! I am only testing the waters...when push comes to shove I will probably end up parting it out to ya. I owe you one from that spoiler.

The only reason I am starting to lean away from the Notch is that it isn't as compatable. I am only doing this swap because Gieco doesn't want to pay for my car, so I am trying to save money. This is why I'm looking for the most adaptable swap. But it would be bad @$$ in a Notch!

What would I HAVE to take off of the GT and replace with the Cobra parts. Pretty much what would I need out of the Cobra. Obviously the motor, trans, HE, ECU, and that's about as far as I've gotten....any additions please!!!

I can tell you from experience, doing a mod swap with a fox is a pain in the ass. If you go with a 99+ GT... its basically plug and play because you've got the donor car. Everything from the cobra will work in the 99+ GTs. The V6 cars will need more attention, but its not nearly as hard as a fox swap. I was doing a 03 swap into a fox, and i helped a buddy swap an 03 cobra drivetrain into his coupe aswell... so if you need any help with your swap.. which ever way you decide to go, i'll lend any help i can.

Dropped...how's it going dude? Yeah...I totalled it in a hit-and-run. It sucks, but that's life. I'm waiting to find out if I'mg gonna get F'ed with the insurance so I'm exploring my options.

Goblin...I appreciate the help and will definately be hitting you up for advice. I think swapping the 03 into a 5.0 would be sick but ultimately I am going for ease. So I think I've just settled on a 99+ GT. This won't happen for ATLEAST 1-2 months b/c I wass really messed up physically, but I'm trying to do my homework before I really start chopping sh*t up. I really do appreciate the help thus far and aymore would be great!

Another ? though.... Would the driveshaft from the GT git the t56?? And how hard is it to take off the GT tranny crossmember and put the one from the Cobra on?? I heard it is only bolts but I haven't had a chance to look. (I'll post some pics of the car after the accident tomorrow)

doc..I re-read the post and I am assuming "DS" stood or drive shaft. So the Cobra drive shaft is different?? If I buy a GT I would like to keep the solid axle. Which drive shaft should I use?? GT or Cobra??

personally id keep the IRS but thats just me. if you choose to keep the irs, it should bolt right up, may need to drill some holes tho. yes DS is driveshaft. i think the cobra one is different due to the irs and the tranny is different, i think.
