I never said I thought it spun a rod. I was asking if you could get it to turn over, either through a boost, or by hand. If it won't turn over by trying to spin the balancer with a johnson bar, it's probably fucked.

nothing looked out of the ordinary or even smelled bad. no sounds. it really seems like the battery just died. but all of his lights come on and everything. maybe a bad battery cell?

You might want to drop the oil out of it, and check it for metal as well.

we didnt try that. there is really no way without getting up under the car. and we were on the side of the road and his car sits too low.

Possible. Certainly worth throwing cables on her and trying to boost it.

if it wont turn over by hand, it wont fire up with a starter...

and Zip. even with PTV contact the motor will still turn over by hand. Its a bent rod IMO.

Not necessarily. That depends how much damage was done, if this is the case. I've seen valves snap right off, and just become a gnarled mess in the cylinder. This probably isn't likely though since he said there was no noise when she died.

We didnt try to turn the motor over by hand. And after we tried to jump the battery for awile it almost turned over. Im leaning toward the battery cell.

i agree with zip... get a big ol' wrench and turn the engine over a full 4 turns via the front of the crank shaft

If you're there with him, pull your battery and put it in his car. Or have another friend who is there with him do that.

okay i agree a valve spring will pull the valve up as quick as possible or the cylinder would push the valve up if the cam were no longer spinging. And that would bend the valve for sure. And that could cause it not to turn over too.

Yeah. Had it happen in my big truck at work a couple years back. Probably not the case here though, since he said there was no noise? Although i wonder if he missed the noise if it happened? That sucker would have been screaming loud at 7500. Sometimes an engine will just seize suddenly without a huge BANG, and maybe he missed the noise because of the over-rev?

why would the battery die from over revving?

he said when he shifted from second to third it started to gain speed and then slowly started loosing it, with his foot in the gas, then he stopped and it died. no wierd noises. he even cranked it once. cut it off and tried to crank it again and nothing.

Hard to believe a battery would cause that, particularly if all the lights are nice and bright still as you said. Still worth tossing another known good battery in it just to eliminate that possibility though.

when he turns the key all of the lights go very dim. we even touched the battery with a tester and it was bright until he turned the key, then nothing.

Keep in mind, if an engine is seized or seizing, when you turn the key to try and start it, the starter will be straining and draw an incredible load trying to turn the engine over, and thus dim the lights.

As I said, his best bet is to put a 110 booster on it, or grab a known good battery from a friend, and try that in there. If it won't turn over with a known good battery, there is something else wrong, and he will probably need to have the car towed home. Preferably on a flat bed, and NOT on a sling truck or wheel lift truck.

I dont think it seized because after it died he cranked it right back up no problem. and then cut it off again and thats when it wouldnt start.
