nitto nt01

I am needing tires so I was just checking out different ones to buy and came across these. I was wondering if anybody has ran them on their car because I would like to know how much mileage you can get out of them and if they would be too sticky and bog my mach down.

Unless you are into road courses than I would get the 555R tire. The NT01 has a stiffer sidewall for cornering and controll. For strait line traction the 555R drag radial is the best bet from Nitto.

I have the 555r's now and cant hook up for anything. I have to rev to 2500 and then let the rpm's come down to about 2100 and then dump the clutch to halfway hook and i mean halfway. What would be the best tire for grip that still gets decent life and not expensive?

The Nittos are going to last longer than any dr out there. They are also the cheapest.

Look into the Mickey Thompsons. I've heard they are one of the best hooking dot tires. A kid in town has the new Hoosiers and he LOVES them, but he says they aren't worth a shit in the rain. If you've ever seen the 'tread pattern' on them you could understand why.

I have BFG KDW2's they're a good street tire. They hook alright when aired down. Good in the rain too.

The Nitto 555R's a great tire IMHO, just not if you drive your car in the rain. Also maybe you should consider going to a bigger rear tire, wider the footprint usually means better traction. Also air your tires down when you want to launch. I run my rears at 36psi for driving, and 20psi if I'm playing around.

the 555r's lost long and hook well on the street. if youre not racing in the rain then you'll be fine. the nt01's are overpriced and you may as well get the 555rs from discount tire direct for a good price

Definatly not the NT01 it will hook worse in a straight line than the 555r. And like RK said, if you want hero making traction (and don't care about wet weather grip) get the M/T ET Street Radials. They are the best hookin DR.

You won't beat Mickey Thompson for traction on a drag radial.

Nittos are nice if you're daily driving a lot but if you're serious about going to the track and planting that rear end down and booking then spend the cash on M/Ts.

Also, I don't know if there is a drag radial worth a damn in the rain. I can do about 40mph in steady rain without feeling too scared. Don't even remotely think about giving it any sort of gas and if the rain has puddled and you fly through it kiss your rear end good bye, both of 'em.

I also have the BFG KDW2s. As FM1 said, they are nice and sticky, and are great in the rain.

It could be driving technique not trying stir up shit, but I manage to get my car to hook on KDW2's.

No doubt the KDW2's would hook! It's generally just M/T are said to be the best hooking. That doesn't mean any other drag radial won't hook fine for others.

You're right, it's driving style. Some people launch at wicked RPMs and some take it slow.

In the end any of the DR are a great choice, it really goes like this:

Do you drive A LOT? Don't get M/T.

are the kdw's a drag radial or is that not what he meant up there?

I find it weird that ive had half people tell me nittos hook up great like way better than streets and this guy here is saying he cant hook up at all basicly. i think it must be tire pressure factor or launch technique. ive never been able to hook on any tire with high rpm launch. usually 2k maybe 2.5 is plenty. but ive ran the same equal times just easing out of the clutch as if i was leaving a redlight and then punching it.

and which would hook better on street and which is better on the track?

i currently have the 555r's in 275/40/17

For those of you running M/T or any drag radial, what RPM are you launching at?

I've tried 3500 and slipping the clutch and I spin. I can do about 3,000 slipping the clutch really quickly and net 1.89 60' times. I'm a consistant 1.89-1.91 60' and I launch around 2500-3000 usually.

What are your techniques and are my 60' times about right? I have mods listed in my garage.

i put about 2000 miles on my car a month. i have the 555s up front and the 555rs in the back im at about 6000 miles since i put my 555rs on with my fr500s. im in high school and i certainly wont be making that mistake again. i wouldnt get them unless you have the cash to back it up or dont do too much commuting.

the 555rs hook awesome even when you dont drop them to 15psi. just driving around at 30psi they hook. when i pull into my friends stone driveway i can hear the small stones being thrown up into my wheel wells. they arent horrible in the rain you can still control it except where there is alot of rubber build up.

I honestly can say that with the right driving technique, proper air pressure, and if your have a big enough footprint street tires will perform. I was very skeptical about getting the KDW2's, but they really suprised me. They're quite sticky for street tires. I wouldn't count them out. I would however invest some rear lower and upper control arms if you're worried about getting traction.
