03 Cobra Clutch Question
Ok. I work on a loading dock so I have to wear boots all the time, Im actually more comfortable driving in them than sneakers...But yesterday I decided to wear sneakers when I went out...Took a little getting used to, suddenly the pedals felt much more responsive and I felt like when I went to shift I wasnt going fast enough or didnt have the rpm up high enough. Anyway, this morning I put the boots back on and drove to work. On the way out of work, I wound out first gear and when I went to step on the clutch to shift to 2nd, I heard a loud pop and suddenly my clutch pedal kind of returned to exactly where it was when I bought the car 3 months ago...it holds like a mother still but the throw to the floor is much shorter, and when I tap on the pedal it has no resistance at all for the first half inch...I dont know whether I damaged the cable or what but I know that when I was driving home it WAS shifting and holding just not the same as its been for the last 3 months. Does anybody know what might have happened?

check your quadrant, cable and adjuster(if applicable)
Sound to me like you popped the quadrant...

How do I check that..Does somebody have a diagram? Is it near the clutch assembly or behind the pedal? Thanks. Greg

they can break real easy or release what tension they had on the cable. might as well just replace the setup with a new quadrant, maybe throw in the firewall adjuster as well. i know that they stock ford cable is tougher than the aftermarket ones but i have had good luck with my steeda setup. whatever you do dont buy the griggs one from summit or jegs, cause you will pay for it when the cable breaks while you are driving.

Well, I checked it. No broken quadrant, no stressed or severed cable...Now its performing perfectly. I went thru this with the last two GTs' I had also, I dont know if its just me but footwear means everything when you drive these cars everyday... Sneakers as opposed to boots means to me I gotta move the seat up an inch and press harder to get the pedal down...etc. No more sneakers. That popping must have been the clutch adjusting itself...although I didnt know it did that while the car was moving.
