Just snapped my rear sway bar......
Was just cruising around today trying to avoid the crazy amount of cars in town for the dream cruise and while taking a somewhat sharp left turn snapped my sway bar.
Clean snap on the passenger side right before the two threads for the bolts. Made a really annoying clinking sound over bumps so I took her easy and luckily was only a few blocks from home. As heavy as it is I'm really surprised it snapped like that . I'll take pictures tomorrow morning and add them to the thread. So right now its completely removed and the car seems almost the same but I think I should get a replacement. Any suggestions? Looking for something stronger and better than stock but hopefully lighter..... Cheers |

I think everyone makes swaybars for these cars... pick your favorite... Steeda, Griggs, Maximum, Addco, Whiteline, FRPP, etc., etc.

Managed to get all the way to work before remembering to snap those pics. I'll take them when I get home.
So I know many brands make sway bars but how much difference in quality? Who makes the absolute best regardless of cost? Who makes the best bang for the cost? As for being rare I totally agree and I'm quite surprised even still. I went back over where it broke to see if perhaps I hit something but nothing there out of the ordinary. As for Dream Cruise, Hell yeah it was awesome. My first year checking it out and I'm already thinking this is cooler than anything Police State Illinois did. Unfortunately I live right above 13 one block off of Woodward and when they close the street it kinda ruins my late night food funs. That shell where a billion people gather is also my convenience store so thats unusable too. Nothing beats rolling out at 7am half asleep and seeing 2 Vipers, a Ferrari, and Carrera GT supercar roll past my house. I love living here! |

The rear sway bar on my dad's 94 Cobra snapped also (sounds like the same location). His snapped as he was driving over some bad RR tracks. He just replaced it with another stock one and hasn't had any problems since.

Eibach makes a sway bar kit, comes with front rear sway bars, all new bushings, end links, everything you need to bolt them right in and considerably larger than the stockers. Just put the front on mine, waiting to do the rear.

This isn't uncommon. My stock rear sway bar didn't even exist on my Cobra until I changed my rear suspension to a more drag-friendly set up. For the record I've have two factory sway bars so far and now have four of them. Both of them broke in half. (I've also cracked rims in half, so maybe I'm good at making two-for-one deals?)
The problem with SN-95 Cobras is the rear swaybar is made from a round metal steel tube. Sounds like it should work, right? No. The swaybar was simply 'pinched' at the ends which created a very weak point on the car, so anything from a hard day at the track to a simple pot hole could cause these to break near the bolt where the steel was pinched. If yours isn't broke, go under your car and look - it probably has a fracture in it. No idea how Ford let this by or what made them think this was a good idea. When I found out mine had been taken off by the previous owner (since the bolts were still in with the broke piece) I ordered another off eBay. I was burned and this one had a stress fracture in it waiting to break. I welded it together so it broke on the other side off a hard launch at the NMRA meet. I ordered a thick as hell one off the internet and am very happy with it - so replace yours with an aftermarket one. Also, I just found on Steeda exactly what I just said when looking at their rollbar:

If you drive a vert, the subframes are a must, they make a huge difference, i wouldnt know how they feel on a coupe but im sure theres a noticable difference. and i actually think the eibach sway bars may be heavier due to the fact that they are much larger than the stock swaybars
