Calling All Nitrous Junkies
I know I know, I change my mind more than I change my underwear, but I'm really considering going with nitrous for a temporary thing to hold me over til the whipple. I'm looking to run NO MORE than a 150 shot, but I really just want to go 100 to satisfy me at the track for now. I am trying to go with NX or ZEX. What are the things that I am going to need that arent in a basic kit that will provide me with some good insurance and what is its purpose. I am an uber n00b when it comes to nitrous soooooo, have patience with my lack of experience. Thanks
Mike

why are you going to set yourself back 10% of the cost of the s/c for a temporary fix? If you know you want a whipple, don't piss away your whipple fund on the juice, man.

I really don't know what comes in a basic NX or ZEX kit, but I'm sure the dealer could tell you if it's got everything you need to be safe. Things to ask about...
Fuel requirments. My car didn't need any changes with this on a 125 wet shot. A tune. Some kits come with a hand held tuner to adjust timing and fuel/spark curves. You will need new spark plugs, get those on your own. I forget the exact # but NGK (I think) TR-6's are 1 step cooler than stock and are what you will need. The rest of the safety parts should be included in any "complete kit" that a vendor will sell you. But look for a window switch, a wide open throttle switch, fuel pressure safety switch... Also for comfort and good looks you'll need a nice switch/arming button, and a bottle warmer. An electric bottle opener depending on where you mount the bottle in your car, if you can reach from the drivers seat was my deciding factor!

I run spray on my Mach, and I love it. Infact I'm not sure if I'd ever want to go FI. There is something about how a nitrous motor comes on.

Your fuel system will be fine for a 100 shot. And despite what people tell you, you do not need a purge.
A window switch would be a good idea. You don't HAVE to have one, but they are a great plus and you can get the MSD switch for less than $100 (If I remember correctly). You will need to run a step colder spark plug. A fuel pressure safety switch would be a great idea, especially if you keep the stock fuel pump. If you mount the bottle inside the cab than just about every track will require you to have a blow down tube. If you mount the bottle in the trunk or out of reach than a remote bottle opener would be a great plus, but not a must. Also, a bottle warmer will help you keep a consistant PSI. You don't HAVE to have a tune for the 100 shot, but I would find a way to keep an eye on your A/F ratio to make sure you are not running lean. That's when things go boom. A simple, single nozzle wet kit would be ideal for you. They are easy to install and tune/get a correct A/F. I have heard nothing but good things about NX kits. It's the only kit my tuner will recomend/sell. I have no experiance with ZEX, but my tuner has claimed to have nothing but problems with them and will not touch them. Just throwing that out there.
