99-01 cobra heads vs 96-96 cobra heads

whats the difference in the 99-01 cobra heads from the 98 cobra heads. and if anybody knows the specs for the stock valves, stock lift and duration, and the stock combustion chamber on the 98 cobra i would like to know. I'm just trying to find an upgraded set of heads for my 98 cobra. if there is an aftermarket set of heads that i don't know about please inform me.

You'll probably have better luck in the 4v section, but I can tell you there's not much option for upgraded heads for the 4v, at least not that's actually worth the time, effort, and money.

they're completely different in all the places that count for the most part. B heads are split port intake, 1 wet, 1 dry. C heads are merged tumble port.

If you want to upgrade your 98 then work on the cams and headers. You could have your heads ported but they already flow like sewer pipes from all reports. A cam with longer duration, mild lift and a set of long-tube headers will go a long way to growing your motor's output.

I already have an off road h-pipe so is there a big power gain difference between long tube headers and shorty headers, because I would have to get shorty headers with my h-pipe. A set of cams for my car is anywhere from $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 so is the power gain really cost efficient vs. other ways of horsepower gain like spray or a supercharger.

longtubes are the only header worth a damn for making more power just by bolting them on. shorty's don't have the primary tube length to do any real good on a NA motor. LT Headers usually free up 15-20hp. Cams can easily net that much but are more expensive to install.

Nitrous is the single best value for the dollar for just adding power. And when you're not using it you can just turn it off. Keep the shots reasonable and you'll enjoy it for a good long time.

Speaking somewhat generic and high level here....

B Heads
Meant for FI. Basically blower heads.
IMRC opens at 3250 to flow the second dry port. Prior to that only 2 valves are breathing.
Under 5000rpm flows worse than C heads.
Above 5000rpm flows much better than C heads.

C Heads
Better NA heads, FI also makes great numbers
No IMRC since it has better low end velocity.
Under 5000rpm flows better than B heads.
Above 5000rpm flows worse than B heads.

i have my cobra heads raceported, and they flow like 320-330cfm's. i paid like 2400 for the job including shipping. was crazy but i should gain close to 40-50rwhp. keep the heads, get the longtubes and shorty x-pipe. you'll thank yourself.

I'm going to move this to the 4V section. Hopefully you'll get some better responses there

shorties give a decent gain, but the LT's are a better investment. the 4v's (especially b-heads) love the high rpm's, and thats why the lt's is so highly recommended. mild porting, and good cams will be a really good investment. porting the intake is a good mod as well. there are no "aftermarket" 4v head, just ported stockers. a good set of cams is worth the investment, just be sure you get ones that are for your plans. thats an expensive mod to change your mind later down the road and have to change your cams.
