If I were you I dont think I would try to get that much rwhp n/a. maybe you should save up until you can get a blower or turbo.

i think theres turbo setups out there that will allow really decent gas mileage with easy driving, but im not sure.

seriously if you your lookin to make power on a budget Id go wit FI. I spent around 4 gs so far with my s/c to get to 400hp and all i got left to pay for is the dyno tune. That includes new t/b, plenum, power pipe, MAF and mid pipe.

Let me guess which one...

Mach1registry? Lol

UD can cause them fail due to uncontrollable vibrations which can crack/shatter the gear. There's much speculation and not enough evidence to pinpoint them as a culprit. There have been mach's who've shattered their oil gears with stock pullies. From my input and minor analysis i'd say it only happens to those who push their vehicle to the brink of 7k and beyond.

Put it this way, How many Machs/Cobras/GT owners have UDP failures? How many have them installed? It's a random failure and i can assure you those who experience this ordeal push their cars hard when attending a track.

The steeda's have a damper in them to reduce vibrations, but like Chris1 said, the stock oil pump parts are weak to begin with. I've heard of stock pumps breaking on cars without aftermarket UDP's too.

As far as 400rwhp N/A, It would be cheaper and easier to get to that # with FI like everyone else has said. To get there N/A you would deff. need head work, cams, intake ported and probably a change in compression.

Replacing an oil pump isn't gonna be just a drive way job... If you ever take the motor apart to forge/rebuild that's when I would do mine. MMR sells a couple really nice versions for Mach's. I think one is cryo treated and the other isn't... Not really sure on wether that's worth the extra dime or not though.

Cheapest way to get 400rwhp... nitrous. Upgrade the fuel pumps and the injectors along with the kit and you'll be fine. UDPs don't really give a good gain anyway. I have them on my car too. The Mach 1 comes with a underdrive alternator pulley from the factory to begin with so there isn't a whole lot more to be gained with them. That's why when you order them they say to use the stock alternator pulley.
