Tuning issues
I live in the middle of nowhere kansas, im fairly sure there are no places within the 250 mile radius of where i live. the problem, i have a diablo predator tuner that came with my car when i purchased it a month ago. It had a custom tune on it when i bought the car, but it with the diablo tune i had to run 91 octane fuel, and that just doesnt financially work with me..(to afford that id have to carry cash, and when i have cash i spend it tooooo fast,
) i have other means to get regular, ANYWAYS, back to my problem. i was messing around with the tuner the other day and i messed something up i think....,tuners are way out of my range of knowledge. so i took it to my cousin who has some knowledge of the matter, he tuned it to mostly stock specifications and adjusted for the 18s and 3.73s and such and he turned some fan temps and whatnot down closer to the way his ls1 is tuned, im not so sure it should be like that but i dont know much about this anyways.... but we turned off the 02s so my SES wouldnt turn on with my exhaust, but it still came on when i drove the car around. so we cleared the troublecodes and that turned it off for about a min...so i just wanted your guys' opinions on this matter, also the car just smells like its running really really rich, i figured that was just the 91 working its way out of the tank but when i finally ended up with 100% 87 it still smelled really rich from time to time, idk what to make of it, like i said im not a mechanic by any means, i learn as i go... so im open to any and all opinions.

Try flashing back to stock. If all you have is gears the only thing will be that the speedo is off. Do you have user adjustable timing? If so you can back down the timing for 87 octane. It does sound like the tune is not properly dialed in. Are you getting lean or rich upstream o2 sensor codes?

I have gears and the 18in rims, i know how to readjust for the gears, not sure how to take care of the wheels, or if that would even affect the speedo enough or not
im gonna go play with it for a while, just incase i cant find it where would i find the adjustable timing on it? im not sure on the o2 sensor codes, ill run a quick check and let you know, ill probably end up just going back to stock with the speedo adjustments if we cant get this figured out thanks trick and thanks hmusn, ive been coming here for a while sifting through all the great info and advice, just now started commenting and posting though

ok, thanks trick, i went ahead and just put the stock tune back on the car, except for the adjustments to the wheels(tire rounds per mile or whatever) and the 3.73s. and i also went ahead and turned the o2 sensors off
i did that last night, anddddd the SES light came back on this afternoon i dont really know what it could be, im gonna feel like an idiot if it turns out to just be something trivial like changing the oil but i dont even know if that would trigger the light, ive never let oil go unchanged that long before, it shouldnt be that even because it was changed about 1500 miles ago so any and all suggestions are good suggestions

pull the code off the diablo.
keep it on the stock tune. if its something that needs to be adjusted thru the diablo, adjust the prameter to it. take it on a run and data log it to see where everything is at. if no luck, reinstall the custom tune and retard the 2k-4k and 4k-7k timing 5 (not .5a full 5), add 1.5 on the 2k-4k and 4k-7k fuel. that should allow 87 octane, or get you really close.

well when my cousin tuned it, or tried to rather, i think he screwed some stuff up when he did it. we took a run through town and when we got back to his house the SES was still on and he just said to clear all troublecodes, so thats what he did and i havent had one since, so idk what to do. the SES went off for a about 2 min after he did that then it came back on and was on till i put the stock tune on and even then it came on about 5 miles into the new tune.
