yes totally normal.water enters the heat extractors when it rains or when you wash it and molds it. You can spray paint it with black heat resistant engine paint. I am goning to paint mine black and the embosed cobra letters blue. NOW-I have no excuse why that engine is so damn dirty on a california car-you should be ashamed.

i took the pad off cus it was looking horrific

by taking it off, i saw that the hood vents could be manually open. i beleive you can close them for rain season. i seen some hood vents on lethalperformance.com for around 170$ but will need to wait.

What do you mean you can open and close the vents? Mine dont close. Its a sloted plastic insert in mine. Please take a pic of yours open and closed for me. greatly appreciated.

Thanks bro. Your car looks 100% better in those pics. I had the hood pad off when the car was striped with paint but I wasnt the one that took it off. Wish I would have noticed. I appreciate the pic just the same. When you do take off the pad do the plastic tabs/inserts that old the pad on work when putting back on or do they have to be replaced? I want to take pad off to paint but I want to make sure I dont strip or break any of the plastic "ribets/tabs?" that hold it on.

well since they don't cost much prob around 10 dollhairs, i would get them new. i pulled them with some needle nose pliers and some seemed reusable, some didn't.

Are you the original owner? If not, they might have cut the vent doors off like the previously owner did to my car. I would have done it myself anyways, no real reason to close them.

every time i see those motors, i just pop a wood. i think it's the valve covers that do it for me or maybe it's the s/c... idk, either way, i feel like i need to rub one off right now.

yeah, when i took my hood pad off, i seen that one was closed, and since ford sells them for 34-36 $ a piece, i thought, i'd just tape them open, and sale them to people who buy the 03-04 hood, $50 for the set seems ok to me.
