shims for 26 spline input shaft T56??

i am buying a liberty 26 spline input shaft for my 04 cobra with the t56. liberty also sells a shim kit for this shaft. my question is has anyone else done this swap and did you need the shim kit?? if you pull out your input shaft and just put in the new one shouldnt it already be set up for the recommended end play? the bearing race on the trans. case cover for the input shaft has a shim under it from the factory

I would definitely get the shims, they are only $20. Chances are you might need them any how, most we end up needing them. Just remember to shim it properly or it will wipe out the bearing. We have the instructions uploaded on our site, and also have them in stock if you need one.

yeah you WILL need the shim kit. you can see what the original shims were in the trans and that will give you a baseline, then just work from there. while you are doing the input shaft it might be in your best interest to swap the throw out bearing retainer sleeve since they are known to fail as well. i have seen some carnage when they decided to sheer off.

then you are going to either be waiting for the shim kit, or you can install it with whats in there and take a chance it will work or FUBAR the new input shaft that you just installed.

i think i only used 2 or 3 of the shims for mine i can see and make you a deal on the remainder of the shim kit and you can make it work.

the throwout bearing can seize on the retainer sleeve when that happens the retainer will sheer off at the base. let me upload some pics showing the difference.
