One is designed to almost always slip.

The other is designed to barely slip and only then for a very short time.

One is made of material that survives heat from friction a bit better, and the other (unless kevlar) will die from heat rather easily.

One is controlled via hydraulic pressure, the other via actuation.

One holds 300ft/lbs torque from a single disc, the other holds 3000lbs across 4 discs.

Does not really sound all too similar really. I still wont comment on the argument though

Yeah but we're talking about seating the friction material. The same rules apply to both aplications. More than likely when you start beating on that clutch it will finally seat properly and stop chattering.

But during the process of beating you are giving it excessive rpm.

When the clutch doesnt seat properly it slips, when it slips it generates heat which kills or significantly reduces the life of the clutch.

Right?

and thats exactly why they recommend a break in period. i think that CMY4D is just trying to say(from his experience and what hes seen) that a break in period isnt absolutely necessary.

i dont think its so much the heat that takes life away from a clutch. im pretty sure its the removal of the actual contact/friction material on the pucks. and then the heat just makes it easier for the puck material to break apart.

Right?
Excessive slipping will kill it..... but its the heat/wear thats going to seat it.

Just spent a bunch to replace it. Why artificially ruin it? Not like you cant have fun with the car ever again.... 200-500 miles is not much at all.

I beat on the car like most people do but I dont see the point of knowingly ruining the part or at least heavily shortening its life.

Its only a couple days of light driving and I think its worth it.

Just go out and raise your rev limiter to 9000rpm Its what these cars are for.... plus half the fun is replacing for better stuff. Besides its going to give out anyways right?
