Just installed new clutch

I know these have a break in time, I've heard 200-500 miles from different people.

My Mechanic said it might take a couple days to seat properly. Feels like its grabbing real hard and now from a stop I get slight vibration when engaging.

I heard some others say they just go beat on the car for a few hours but that sounds like a rather bad idea. I was planning on a couple neighborhood drives with lots of stop signs and nothing over 3000rpm.

Also this morning when I started it for work I noticed a high pitched squeaking noise when the clutch was out. It went away after about a block from my house but I'm assuming that is normal for a brand new clutch?

When I got the clutch in my 98GT replaced I had none of those symptoms so just double checking since this is the first clutch job in the Cobra.

Thanks.

Which clutch did you put in? The vibration is clutch chatter and is common on agressive clutches. The squeek is your throwout bearing.

Just an OEM clutch I bought from ClutchMasters on 8 mile here in Detroit. They rebuild them and sell new ones. I got the kit for 140 which was about half of everyone elses price.

Major bonus was they had it in stock which was what I needed. No one carries the damn clutch for this car and I needed it same day for the work. Every other shop in the freaking planet wanted to order it.

The box says Valeo. It feels a hell of a lot stronger than stock even though its OEM quality. Lifetime warranty as well.

I'm quite happy with it so far. Just got the car back mid afternoon yesterday. Nothing seems out of place.

just ride it out for a few more days. Sounds almost to good of a deal for the clutch.

Yeah I've heard too much about it to simply ignore everything and go beat on it....

I bet he also buys a new car with 7 miles on the clock and runs it. Nevermind the break in period for the engine.....

Clutch feels good but I'll do things right

I'm sure everyone with race cars DDs the car for 500 miles with every clutch change... LMAO I have installed more clutches than you can count and have watched alot of them get beat on from the get go without any issue. Now it does take a little time for them to seat but the same rule applies to brakes. If one of you can give me a logical reason as to why it would hurt it, then I'll shutup.

lol, you want a logical reason? its the little part on the sheet of paper from the clutch manufacturer that says the customer needs to drive a break in period before driving the car HARD. im sure its there for a reason.

Yeah a reason.... Its amazing what companies will say to keep warranty claims down. I'm guessing you all are firm believers in allowing a new motor to break in by driving it easy for a certain amount of miles. Its amazing that there has been research done that says in most cases a motor that has beat on from the start will make more power than the ones that where driven easy during break in. I know you'll think I am full of shit but I'll post the link when I get home. Work filters suck.

Still seems to chatter in 1st or reverse enough to vibrate my dash and steering wheel. If I rev before lifting the pedal like a n00b learning to drive it seems to not chatter as much.

Otherwise all I notice is squeaking with the clutch out after starting the car but hopefully that will go away soon? I really dont need something else to go wrong

Did they turn the flywheel?

Oh and here is a link
Engine break-in (CBR1000-RR)

Oh and in order to properly seat brake pads you do a few panic stops. Its amazing that the clutch is supposed to get special treatment.

yep they turned it. I sat and BSed with the mechanics until the guy came back with it from the shop to put back in.

I even got the receipt for it stapled to my invoice when it was all said and done.

I totally trust the work since I know the guys and they do have an insured shop.

Its only been 2 days since I got it so we'll see how it pans out.

well drive it some once it seats properly, the chatter should go away. If it doesn't then it all has to be done again.
