Need some help, my Mach is dying
Well last night my car started making a little puttering sound but when I turned it on this morning and went to my wifes parents house and back the sound was gone. So I park my car at home and come back to it later in the day, I get in to go get some food and the car starts going crazy. It starts giving this puttering sound and the engine starts shaking. I'm at a red light and the car has a steady shake to it with the put put sound still coming out the exhaust. I hit the gas and as I accelerate the shaking gets worse and the sound gets louder, so I bust a U turn to come back home and the engine is just going crazy... my shaker is just rocking side to side in a steady motion with the hollow puttering brushing sound coming out the exhaust. Anyone know what going on with my car? I have not added any mods to it in while and have not gone WOT in a while and the last thing I did was put fuel in the car yesterday morning.

Don't have any problems with anyone but man that would suck if someone put something in there. I'm also thinking maybe something with the fuel I pumped? Anyone know what the car would act like if putting less than 91+? Or does it even do anything? Maybe the pump gave me something else?

Try reloading your tune or reseting the computer. How often do you change your fuel filter?

Adding less than 91 octane would cause detonation... your problem sounds like fuel delivery or a foul spark plug/s... Did the Check Engine light come on? a problem like what your describing is bound to throw a code.

sounds like a MAF problem if you're putting in the appropriate octane rating for your tune

I'm on my way to take off the tune and see if it gives me any codes. I changed the fuel filter and plugs less than 10 thousand miles ago or less than 5 thousand miles.. cant remember exactly but i'm leaning more towards less than 5 thousand on the plugs and filter. I was worried about detonation but not sure why there would be less than 91 in there, unless I was tired and hit the wrong number on the pump. They tell me detonation sounds like knocking, not sure if this is that but I think it sounds like the old old cars you see on TV that are about to die. Like in the old old comedy movies.
Be back in a bit... =(

i would drain your tank and put new fuel in it. You might have just got a crappy tank of gas.

Well I took off the tune and could not find a code, so I drove a few blocks and finally a code came out. P0303 I think the code means there is a misfire in cylinder number 3, now to fix this thing without paying hundreds of dollars. help?

well...3 things needed for a cylinder to fire. ignition, compression, fuel. Check the spark plug, and the gaps. Let us know after that

Ok I think I have big problems, so I went to take the spark plug out and when I pulled the boot out the spark plug came with it. The thread was messed up on the plug and the side electrode(the hook) was pushed against the center electrode. So I thought hopefully its just the spark plug, so I go to buy another and when I go to put it in it will not screw in. I don't even think the thread is reaching the other thread because the anti seas does not even get smudged. I even tried putting a little force on it downwards to see if it would grab and nothing. I think im F*d =( help?
Heh heh yeah you win 03 R code, I wish it would off been just a switch of the plug job but we will see. Thanks for everyones help,

Yea the spark plug blew out and took the threads with it. only options are helicoil in car or pull the head and take it to a shop. It's a PITA on the 4v head because it is way down in there.

Sucks bad to hear that, but I've heard of these motors blowing out spark plugs before... sorry it happened to you though. Like Doc said a helicoil or pull the head. If it were mine I'd pull the head just to be sure there isn't any damage to the piston...

I need to take it to a shop if I want to get the pistons checked out, I live in a apartment and they wont be too happy if I start working on my car here. To check it will they be opening the car enough to say F it and put in some new forged parts? Maybe even cams? or will they not need to remove that much to check it?

What he said. It's a pain in the ass to get the heads off too. If you are comfortable doing it it'll save you TONS of money in labor fees at a shop. Or... when you have the plug out try looking in tere with a flash light. You might maybe be able to see the top of the piston... Not sure though but it's worth a try.

I just remembered I think I still have warranty on my car. So im hopping that works but its a long shot. I have heard that when you take it to the dealer you should remove your tune? I have returned it to stock, is there anything else I need to do? I think my warranty is six years/72000miles, does anyone else have this? I remember them telling me it covered the engine... does anyone know or have this that came with the dealer??

If it's under warranty then the car will have to be EXACTLY the same as the day you bought it from them. They'll tell you that your cai caused the spark plug to blow out because of all the extra air you are taking in now... weak shit like that just so it's not under warranty.
