cobra stock input shaft
what are the limits with the stock 03-04 cobra input shafts? i see a lot of folks upgrading them, is there a time when you reach so much hp/tq that you must upgrade?

I'm not sure what the hp/tq area people are doing them, but I'm going to change mine when it's time for a new clutch.

i dont know what im making for power now but the 2nd night i had the 2.76 pulley, i was in 2nd gear about 2000rpm, hit the gas and at about 4ooo rpm or so the tires (315 sumitmo htz) started to spin. it got to about 5700 rpm and i was getting ready to shift to third and all of a sudden i hear this clunck and the motor was hitting the rev limiter at 6850. right away i knew what it was. i thought they mainly broke on hard launches...guess not. easy to swap out.

they should have come stock with the 26 spline instead of the 10. some sites say to switch it out when you reach 500hp/tq. I myself would switch it off sooner. i.e. when transmission work is done, tranny fluid change, etc.

It's not too difficult to install, and if you're getting a new clutch/flywheel or have reason to be around that area, you could always toss it in with the install for a couple bucks more at your local shop. |
