WTF Am I looking at?

So browsing ebay, trying to find a good deal on a new set of heads for my 2v and I stumbled across this If it's really an mkviii block and heads then that's a decent deal right? Good project build I would think for me to replace my 2v with. But I have no idea wtf it really is. Would love some help guys! Thanks

Yeah, and if those are C heads and you don't like it then I'll buy them off of you.

How would I be able to tell if those are C heads? And I thought Mach1s came with c heads. Or maybe not. Hmm..Suppose I need to start learning 4v terminology.

99 Cobras on up came with C heads. 93-98 came with B heads, which after extensive machining are just as good as the C heads.

Those are B heads (96-98 cobras/94-98 mark8's). The block is NOT a teksid block either. It has diamond hash marks in the valley so its a WAP block. Teksids have a square pattern in the valley. -Mark

The WAP blocks are what came in the Mach 1 and the Marauder. They're good blocks, they just can't support the power that the teksid, and the cast iron blocks can.

You have to ask yourself what you want out of the engine. Those heads and that block can make a great setup if you want.

WAP blocks are still a great block. I think they'd be fine for 600-700rwhp. Plenty of strength for a street car. -Mark

Well I mean 350 for it with no internals, no accessories and no timing cover, no camshafts, no valve covers. Does that sound at all right? I'm hoping to build (eventually) a stroker 5.0 and slap a twin screw on it with a t56 to back it. This would obviously be a long term project, and a shameless cobra clone most likely.

You'd have to get a 96-98 cobra intake for it but they don't make an intercooled twin screw for B heads. And the biggest twin screw is only a 2.1 So if you're set on picking the block and heads up then I would get a centrifical blower and intercool it. But for a budget a forced induction b-headed 4v is no joke. They can make some serious power.

mach1racer- thanks for the rep.

So for a twin screw I'd then also have to get a set of c heads? I know it'd probably be much cheaper (and easier) to get a centri, but I'd prefer the instant boost of a positive displacement blower. Especially when you figure that for all the work that it would/will take to swap a 4v into a 00GT, it's not going to be much of a budget car in the end.

Ya if your dead set on a twin screw your best bet is to swap heads. But I learned a long time ago you can't use the words "budget" and "modular" in the same sentence. -Mark

I finding that out right now. I have $7200 invested already, and I don't have my shortblock done yet.

So I'd pretty much end up spending 6-7 thousand dollars just getting this thing running and in my car before it even gets into the realm of FI? Even going cheap as shit with the B heads and a centri, the swap and everything would put me in the same category correct? How about NA? My end goal is to be at about 350 rwhp if I stay NA. I figured the 4v would be a much better platform to try to hit that number with than the 2v.

You can get that N/A no problem. It will cost you about $2k for the stroker kit. Plan on spending at least $5k to say n/a. The supercharger kit will cost you $6k

Well I figure if I'm doing a stroker kit, then the internals could handle more than the 400 hp that the factory internals handle. Therefore if I get 350 hp N/A then save up and slap at pos. disp. on there then it'd be a pretty fun street machine. Not to mention I roll with a pair of 350Z (one will be supercharged in the spring), a TT Supra and an 07 GT. And I am by far the slowest of the group at the moment. Considering my current 2v motor is starting to show it's age and is in need of about a grand worth of replacements (the whole cooling system and the heads need to be replaced) before long, I figured a 4v would be the ticket and I could have it up and running by late spring or early summer hopefully.

Don't stroke it, just get a big bore, and build it for high rpms. Stroking takes away from these engines shine, and that is up top.

What is your rwhp goal and how much do you have to spend? You can get a built shortblock for around 2500-3000$ if you shop around. Then find a used centri on the internet for less than 2500$. With both of those you can put down as much as 600rwhp. B-heads love boost. But once you go FI then all the other addded costs come into play that people forget... injectors, new MAF, fuel pump, tune, belt, and maybe a gear swap. Then for the motor its gaskets, good oil pump, oil, etc.
