Honestly I would just tear it apart, get better rings, better bearings, main studs, new arp rod bolts windage tray, rebalance the whole bottom end and go. The crank is a kellogg crank and that is a very nice piece, the rods will handle over a thousand, the only thing I would change is the pistons and I would go with a touch higher compression coated forged pistons, head stud it and get a better oil pan and oil pump. That is a very strong short block that will handle a thousand and revs in the 7k range. But if you are gonna build a pure race car then maybe you want to spend the extra money on some race components. If that is the case then why waste your time and money buying a cobra motor when all you are gonna use is the block? just buy a new iron block. don't even think about aluminum if you are gonna be going a thousand or more unless its a teksid and even then I don't think its a smart decision for an 8 sec car.

you don't need a different computer just because you are going auto. A tuner can plug in a tune for that swap. I went from auto to manual and the guys at Houston Performance burned me tune on my diablo for the swap. so just about any cobra or mach computer will get it done.
