03/04 Rods & Pistons on my 01

Bare with me guys. I'm trying to figure this out. Please help me out here and not make heckle me if this is a dumb question. Can I take rods and pistons and just simply "swap" them into my 01 cobra? I know the compression ratio will be lower (because of the supercharger from the 03/04), but will they just work in my block, with the heads, and bolt right onto the crank? Simply I'm looking to forge my rotating assembly. I may be able to find some used parts from an 03/04 for a good price. I want to be able to handle more than 500+ HP. Will I need a new block as well?

you will be better off not putting "used" parts from another rotating assembly into your motor. getting the short block forged isnt that big of a deal, there are also some good shops that can take care of that for you were you only have to install the motor when it gets sent back. i know that it is easy to find used rods and pistons out of a termi, but i would really hesitate to do it.

dont worry about your block, it will be fine for what you are wanting to do.

Let's just say I wanted 700-800 horsepower. Will by block handle that? And also how much would it cost me to get just forged rods and pistons? That's all I need right? ...because the crank is already forged...

the cobra pistons are likely to give you problems around 700 horse, there a real weak link in the termi chain, there not bad pistons but just not the best for 700 horse, some people run more and are fine, but its all luck. and I think a whole forged bottom end is like 2500 without labor I believe, not sure thu. and if you have the same block as the mach 1 etc etc, I think most people only recommend it for 600 700 stock.

If you really wanted to do it that way I would only use the rods since they are Manley rods. The pistons however are the weak link and you should go aftermarket.

Either Oliver Billet I beam rods, or Manley Billet H-I Beam or I Beam Rods.

I've also wondered what is the premium forged parts....

As in lightened forged parts good to 1500rwhp. Not just forged but the top shit even if pricey....

I dont know enough about aftermarket forged internals to know what is better than the "average" forged setup.

I see myself shooting for at least 600-900rwhp for the first iteration, then eventually going even bigger to achieve a 4 digit rwhp once I get used to that kind of power.

Actually Bro, good forged and billet parts are usually heavier.

Just get aftermarket forged parts. Rods, pistons, rings, and berings will run you about 1k-1100 for good parts and that will get you to a point where the block is the weak link. I wouldn't go past 650 on a wap block. Not to mention you can pick your compression that way and not have to run the low compression boost pistons fromt the cobra. Acid the top of the line shit is the solid billet rod, but it needs special work done to the crank and special bearings. it is not worth the money. Unless you are looking to run over a thousand horsepower all the time a good forged H-beam rod and good forged pistons will be enough to handle the real power levels of just about everyone on here.

Where's a good place to get the rod, piston, ring, and bearing kits? Link?

Nothing if money is no object. but dropping an extra 500-1k dollars on rods and pistons that will support more than a thousand horsepower in a motor that will make sub 700 numbers just doesn't make sense to me. Thats a good set of cams and valves or some good fuel system parts.

I agree, but I do things differently. I do everything in a related area at once. For instance with my engine, I know that I have to rebuild it, sure I'd love to be able to put that blower on right away, but I'd have to skimp on high quality parts for the internals. So I'm building my lower end once. I'm going all out with it and I'll wait until I have the extra cash to get the blower.

I remember hearing about a full billet motor for some Jay Leno project on TV. I wonder how much that bad boy would take....

Thankfully I have a Teksid so no new block for me. Do they even make something better than the Teksid 4.6 block without going Iron? I havent heard any new ford aluminum blocks being stronger.

nothing wrong with using used parts. just have a machine shop check it all outnad go from there. the termi rods (manley), are very good and i recommend them if you are looking at buying a set. without boost, those pistons wont be a good set up on your cobra. they will fit into your block, but dependin on what the cylinders look like, you may need a bore and the cobra pistons wont work anyway's. i too recommend just buying an aftermarket piston.
