I know this is stupid but...

If someone could explain the dangers of not having a tune for the following modifications on a 2003 mach 1 please be my guest.

1. Magnaflow catback
2. Bassani x pipe w/cats
3. JLT ram air
4. Steeda pulley's
5. Accufab TB

Thanks

There's no "real" dangers. The car would just perform better with a custom tune.

With what you have it wouldn't be dangerous. My understanding of the usual danger of not having a custom tune is getting the car too lean with all of the additional airflow.

I still don't understand why anyone who knows both would take a fuel injected motor and make it carbureted (or replace it with a carbureted one).

I ran a mid 13s AFR with fewer mods than that. That's considered pretty lean.

Like previously stated, it you be hurting anything other than performance. The tune makes the car run more efficiently. Unless you do some serious mods, or start spraying you don't have to get a tune. A tune would just help you out a lot.

Your answers bring me over to another question fellas.

If I'm running lean does that posess a danger to any of the internals, catalytic converters, o2 sensors or exhaust system?

Your car right now isn't make the power or running efficiently without a tune. If you didn't noticed a difference with those mods on then a tune would make that difference.

I could feel a huge difference. Only thing is I feel like its guzziling gas quicker...lol

I'm averaging about 260-280mpg at best.

This vehicle never sees anything close to 4.5k rpm.

holy shit, I wish I could get 260 mpg.

But in all seriousness, you should get a good dyno tune. You spent all of that money on those mods you might as well squeeze as much power out of them as you can. If your really worried about needing a tune or think you might be running lean then you should invest in a Wideband so you can monitor your A/F.

Personally, I like to get re-tuned with every new mod.

I drive like a granny in this vehicle therefore I get 260+...lol
I love the drone in the 4v.

So in other words a tune is just to get more out of your mods.
Other than that i'll be fine?

If that's true than It can wait.

wow a tune would definitely help out with that alot, you should be getting way better gas mileage. at least in the 300-330 range.

And im jealous of your gas mileage. of course i dont drive my car like i should if i wanted to save gas and im in boost 70% of my driving but i usually get about 230, maybe 260 if i drive conservatively.

Yeah I get about 180-200 gallons per tank. Then again, I drive it hard and my car sees 5500prm shifts on a regular basis.

For bolt-ons it is. But as already mentioned if you are adding some major air like a turbo, S/C, or juice than you would want one.

Running way to lean can do some damage, but I doubt you are that lean with just the few bolt-ons you have. Still, widebands are relatively cheap and are a good way to keep an eye on things.

Same here! I'd be thrilled with getting more than 200 miles on a tank of city driving
