What Tranny Fluid?

Okay guys, I just searched around to see what I could dig up... Found this:

tranny fluid ?

My question to you guys. I have the stock tranny on my 01 cobra (I believe its the T-3650 if i'm not mistaken); that thread I included in here has a bunch of different types of fluid floating around in it. There doesn't seem to be a common type that a group of people are using. What fluid should I use in my transmission? I've heard GM Syncromesh is good. But I'm open to others as well. Thanks

Why non-synthetic? I've been thinking about switching my T-45 over to redline, haven't yet out of sheer laziness.

the tremec-3650 is a different animal, I used rp synthetic and ended up removing it.(that fill plug is a B by the way) I ended up just using regular auto store brand auto. tranny fluid and is shifts very smooth. This really only go's for us w/ the tr-3650 which was used in the 01 cobras and the 03/04 mach 1s I know for sure.

Any Mercon III fluid is fine (I think thats what the manual says for the 3650) Stay away from synthetic fluids for the tranny. Wears on the syncros twice as fast.

My second gear was rough as hell to get into and my 3rd was grinding just a little bit. I replaced my trans fluid with Valvoline Mercon V. And well it shifts a whole of a lot better then before. Ford recommends Mercon III or V. I believe they used to recommend III but now its V but either will work.

Is this true for the T-45 as well? I had always heard that running the Redline ATF is the best for reducing wear.

Why is synthetic is causing premature synchro wear, and is that only with the 3650?

For the T45 its weird. My 98 manual says mercon V but 97-96 manuals call for for Merc III. When I broke my new tranny in I put in Merc V then switched to Merc III and it seems to shift smoother. But I think either one will be fine for the T45.

As far as synthetic fluids, let me find the article I found while I was researching fluids. I'll post the link when I find it.

3.8 Quarts of Mercon V. Yes, Mercon V.

You can always cheat and just pour all 4 quarts into the transmission through the tailpeice of the transmission by taking the shifter off. It'll make a mess because it'll drain itself through the fill plug which is what you want.

Get it on 4 jacks, completely even and square. Drain the transmission through the drain plug on the bottom (3/8'' ratchet). Clean the Plug and screw it back in there and get it nice and snug.

Now up on the passenger side there it a plug near the rear of the tranny. You'll see it. It says "Fill". Unscrew that.

Go into the car and take your shifter console out, take the heat gaurd off the shifter, take shifter off and you'll see a 'cup' and right behind that you'll see a small hole going into the transmission. Pour the fluid in there.

What I did was took a gallon ziplock and made a splashgaurd and surrounded the console by taping it down, then I got a funnel and poured the fluid through there. Fill it up untill it starts pouring out of the fill hole. Wait for it to stop, plug it back up, have fun.

Also, before yo ucrank the car, shift through the gears with the car off for a few seconds. Then after creanking the car, run through the gears while parked. Get it all worked around before you drive it.

I have the T3650... You have the same as I do. Trust me. Mercon V. It's what I've had in there since the sycnhro rebuild and haven't ground a gear yet.

Mercon V? Haven't heard of that one lol. Think I'm gonna try a Mercon III and see what that does.
