clutch replacement- replace whole clutch assembly or just clutch disc?
my clutch is done and i was looking on lethalperformance.com. i thought they only sold clutch assemblies as a whole. i didnt know you could buy a clutch/puck disc by itself. the centerforce dual friction is the one i have in there now.
do any of yall know if i would be good by just replacing the clutch disc with another one of the same brand? thanx in advance. |

clutch kits are made for the application, so stay with the same brand, series, etc. its reccomended to replace everything, but if the pressure plate is fine then you should be ok. just be sure to scuff the pressure plate goo on istallation.

Honestly if ther are no heat spots or rings on the pressure plate you should be ok by just getting a brillo pad and scuffing up the surface and just buy a new disk. However, for all that work of pulling the exhaust, driveshaft, and tranny, might as well be better safe then sorry and pick up a new pressure plate. Don't forget to turn the flywheel or get a replacement center piece if its an alum FW.

thanks for the input guys, i appreciate it. ill just go ahead and get a whole new assembly. i have one of centerforces billet steel flywheels so it should be good with a light turn.
and i got an email from lethalperformance- 10% off all Fidanza clutches and flywheels. and im thinking about getting one of their kits. do yall know anything about Fidanza's reputation??? |

Spec buys Fidenza's flywheels FYI but I think their quality is good. I have been on the same FW for the last 4 clutches I've put in my car. All I did was replace the friction surface. A lighter flywheel will definately reduce stress on the input shaft/tranny. The motor will rev quicker too. Oh and don't believe the hype about aluminum FW hurting launching. I've got my best 60fts with an alum FW.

Which clutch is the best is a hard statement to answer, lots of people with lots of different experience and driving habbits.
Hayes and zoom have always worked perfect for me, but I know guys who have ran spec or fidanza clutches for 2weeks and it blew or two years. I say get a spec disc, clean up your pressure plate and go from there. Strongly suggest resurfacing the fly 2

The King Cobra Clutch is nice, but I got more holding power out of my fidanza 2.1 than the KC kit with less pedal effort than stock.

I won't last IMHO I have had badluck with my SPEC, while it was great for street driving, it couldn't hold up.
