347 stroker Winter Project

So earlier this week I woke up to a text from my stepdad saying "i just bought a 347 for your car", that message in now saved in my phone lol. I'm picking the motor up this weekend. As of now i know it is a 347 stroker, cammed and gt40 heads (wish they were trickflow) motor supposedly made a little of 400hp. We are replacing the timing chain and rear main seal before it goes in my car. Only thing that sucks is i don't have a trans yet to be able to hold that power. Any suggestions...only stipulations are must be manual and at least 5 speed cause the car is still going to be street/strip, but i am a college student so my pockets arent exactly full

go to a junk yard or "U pull it" and find the lowest mile t-5 you can...and re build it to. A friend of mine has a 331 stroker fully built runs low 11's on motor and has a stock t 5 on it. Take pics of the engine when you get it!!

a stock t 5 will work but you'll be on borrowed time w/ it. if you guys have the money you might as well do it right.

Trust me and im sure lots of others will tell u stay as far away from a T5 as you can!! might last might not, chances are not. sure u can build it to hold good power but if u go that far just get a Tremec. thats what i think.. but who cares about that right?!! lol..

do not use a stock t-5! if ur low on money u might want to look into getting a t-5 housing of some sort or buy a t-5 with alot of miles and buy the g-force kit and have it rebuilt that way...that will hold the power no problem..or if u can afford it, look into a t-56..but that requires some things like a driveshaft, crossmember i believe and a clutch..(not sure if u have to get those anyways or not)..and im jealous sort of, i wish my dad would just buy a 347 for me..then again i paid every cent towards my car and it makes me feel good..but i would have no problem taking that motor from them

ewwwwwwwwwww gt40s its prob not making alot more hp than my car, a t5 will be fine if youre not on slicks and driving like a retard, once you start cutting some good 60's then worry about it

hey ryan i know your out there somewhere..how long have your T5's lasted? as long as you have a clean t5 (not as in not dirty as in rebuilt..thanks) get a good clutch and shifter..dont drive like a retard you should be okay..just stay away from slicks and high rpm launches...there is a tko600 here locally near me for $700 w/ a pro 5.0 shifter...you can find them used easily...look around...

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I agree with the gt40's having to go but im going to keep them for now cause i don't want to seem unappreciative. I'm pretty sure with a little persuasion i can get my stepdad to get the tremec for christmas, that may sound stuck up to you guys but I help him with alot of paperwork shit for work.

P.S. As soon as the build starts I'll be posting pics! Can't wait
