ford explorer heads?
I have to redo my piston rings so i figured while im at it id pop in a b303 cam and gt40 heads of a ford explorer. can i literally just pull them straight off the explorer and bolt them as-is onto my mustang?

From what ive been researching yes you can just don't get a set of GT40P (F77E)heads, The angle of the spark plug is different and would require you to buy new headers. A couple easy ways to tell are:
GT40's, have 3 bars on the front the heads and generally have a casting number of (F3ZE, F1ZE) GT40P's, have 4 bars on the front of the heads and if you look on the top of the heads by the push rod holes you'll see a stamping the clearly says GT40P

ive heard the gt40s suck compared to the p's, is this true or is it a barely noticeable diff, im not looking for a race car, just something with enough power to have fun so i dont really care if its a 10hp diff

yes the header selection is narrowed but still not a big deal yes the p heads are better due to the spark plug angle being closer to the center of the combustion chamber. if you get a set of heads its smart to bring em in to have em checked out maybe even a valve job to make sure everything seats the way it should. loom into a different cam try to find a trickflow stage 1 or 2 they are everywhere and will be better for your motor.

here's a flow chart i had posted in another thread which shows the difference between the e7, gt40 and gt40p heads. and listen to these guys when they say to avoid going with a ford letter cam. especially a b303, that's barely better than stock.

They don't blow. There are better cams but dollar for dollar, they are still heads above the stock cam. We were getting mid 12's with an F303 and stock bottom end with some reworked E7 heads. The next best value would be Trick Flow

you sound like a magazine*L*....all the abc cams are way better than stock if you have the right components..though I don't like any of them..how was that test conformed on the heads? you can do minimal work on the gt40 if you have them to flow very well

^ dude, that chart is just showing stock numbers. all i said is i wouldn't waste the time, money or effort installing a b303 cam. you said yourself you don't like letter cams so what the fuck is your point?

There not terrible, they are just older technology so you might as well go with trickflow 1 or 2

Their main drawback is that they are single profile cams and they tend to be conservative. They have been around a long time and considering they are factory replacement pieces designed to fit a wide range of applications, they are decent performance upgrades. As far as spring upgrades, I believe that the Trick Flow upgrade kit will work on the GT40P's and are good to .542" of total lift.

Ive also been thinking about the AFM N-41 and N-412 i know they're similar. But what heads are you running on your car?

u can also look into a custom cam..it isnt much more money than the cam ur lookin at, and its made perfect for your setup..look into that for real.
