Notch to get 88 v8

I tried searching but haven't gotten the specifics yet, I know I need the engine harness from a 92 and up for the swap and have to extend the alt wires but I allso read that it is possible to use the 88 harness by a little wire position changing, just curious about that, if I can get by with out buying another harness I'd like to.

yes it's a four cylinder and my gt is a maf car, i was worried about the fuel pump relay. I wanna have everything figured out before I do it to min the down time of the car. I have read that because of the relay being relocated in 92 I need a diff harness for the engine or I can change the wiring myself. I want to know what to change and if theres any thing else I'm going to run into. The notch is a 92 4 cylinder with a 5 spd. the 88gt is a maf car and also has a 5spd

if your planning on using a 92 harness in a 88 your head and tail lights will not work. i think 88 and 89 are the only compatible ones... tryed with my 88 and searched forever for a harness but found one on ebay...

? The notch is a 92 and it's getting a 88 5.0. From what I have found (ie google) the problem is the fuel pump relay being moved there for not working with the older harness and I am trying to figure out what wires I need to move in order to avoid spending money on parts when I can make/modify one I allready have. The only thing I ve found thus far about any thing about the head lights is if you try to use the older v8 headlight harness in the newer 4 cylinder car is that the horn goes off for I fogot the reason but I remember the reason for swaping that harness is one has the alternator wires in the headlight harness and the other doesn't and to just skip that pain I'll just extend the alt wires. I'm still searching to see whats up with the fuel pump relay wires tho.... not trying to confuse any one just figured every one would get what I'm trying to do between the title and first post since it is a fairly common swap.

I have a 92 ex 4cyl and if i remember correctly the fuel pump relay is inside a relay box under the hood and when you remove the 4cyl efi harness that box will go with it, there for taking away your relay altogether. You would have to locate the wires from the 88 that control the 88 fuel pump relay and cut in with your own relay and wire the puel pump that way. It is a good bit extra work but it would pay off big to locate a compleat interior harness from a v8 car and use that, or better a whole body setup from head lights to tail lights (motor, dash, interior ect) and use that. When i put my first 5.0 in my car we were trying to go efi and there is so much that is different that we just stuck a carb on it and drove it that way. The fuel lines are in a different place and all the wireing is different.

Yah realized the fuel lines were on the other side so I have to take them from the 88. From what I have read from other forums and from what other people have said the easiest way is to just get the newer harness for the engine and extend the alt wires. I may try what you suggested tho, take the whole harness from the 88 and put it in the notch, I think besides dthe work to do it it's going to be a pain to deal with the air bag harness and module wiring that into the 88 body harness. I found a engine harness from a 91 on ebay but the guys being less than helpful. From what I understand 91 is the transition year from the fuel pump relay being under the seat to being under the hood and when I asked him if it was the one that has the relay under the hood and the brown 8 pin connector that I need he just replies it's out of a 91. So how does that help me if 91 is the transition year and some were under the seat and some under the hood? It really frustrated me but what ever I guess, I'll be home on leave tomorrow night and back home there's alot more wrecking yards with more of a selection vrs here. Now you said the relay went with the 4 cylinder harness? Is it hard wired or does it have a clip so I can plug it into a newer v8 harness?

It does unplug but it is not a standard relay. It is a box mounted to the front of the pass strut tower (if i remember correctly) and housed about 8 relays inside it. Not relays your can take out, but hardwired inside the box. Unless you just want the airbag i would just forget about all that. You can still use the airbag column by slpicing a couple wires for the horn and cruise (if it works or you want it), that way you can retain the interior from your 92 or swap in your 88 column with some mods to fill the gaps left since that area is different between airbag and non airbag cars. You will also need a v8 cluster because the tach is set up for a 4cyl. It is a good bit of work to do an entire harness but it can be done in a day or two and almost all the interior has to come out, but it would make things soooo much easier. It would also be safer than having a hacked up harness. If you have the parts i'd use them.
