Clutch problem for 88 5.0 306

I think my clutch is going bad or isnt enough to keep up with my horse power that i got. In the mornings after i let it idle warm up it feels like i can actually feel the gears when i shift. but when it warms a little bit its back to being smooth like normal. I have a rear main leak also so i was wondering if that had anything to do with it and it feels like it looses power throught the rpms. But if i need a new clutch there are so many to choose from i dont know where to start i was looking at the zoom stage 2 ones but im not shure about the size and diameter thing.

Oil will kill a clutch. Get that rear main leak fixed.

Center Force Dual friction clutch is a good one.. Make sure the clutch you get is rated for close to or more than the power that your car has.. Lotsa good clutches out there to choose from...Center Force seems to have one of if not the best pedal feel. Not to stiff not to soft really close to stock tension..

Like darrel said, the rear main will take that clutch out and cause the clutch to glaze very quickly. When you say you can feel the gears before it warms up, you mean they are grinding? If that is the case, cold gear grinding is normal. Just go easy on it until it is warmed up and the fluid is circulated throughout the transmission fully. That does not sound like a clutch problem. And when you say that it is loosing power on top end, do you mean the clutch is slipping where the RPMs go up like it is neutral but you do not feel anything? If it is just loosing power then it probably is not clutch related. It is probably valve-float or something similar.

Yea its just losing power not like going into neutral where it doesnt do anything and it is still in gear. And i got a little over 400hp so if i had a stock clutch what would it do and how would and aftermarket be any different?

Ouch, I didn't want to hear about the main seal leak causing clutch problems. I just put a 93 engine in my 83 convertible in October, now I am getting a couple of drips on the garage floor over night from the rear seal.

Could this be the reason I need to keep adjusting the clutch every 3 weeks? Doesn't seem slip.

Thanks

Clutch discs are made with friction material as you probably know. think about a garage glow. Your shoes probably grip it just fine. Think about it with engine oil on it. You slip don't you? Your clutch is no different.
